Hey all

Ive been through two GPS Units (Both Garmin) so far in the course of driving all over the countryside and more than once in my aimless meanderings ive come across a road that shows up on the GPS but dosent appear out the window....

Also there have been a few occasions where the GPS has told me to cross a bridge that again dosent exsist.

Am I alone in this head scratching moment ?

nope, sometimes the maps are out of date and occasionally the maps have planned info in them.

just very occasionally the map resolution isnt enough and when you get 2 roads that end near the same spot the software will "join the dots" making a road or bridge where there isnt one.

the latter is very rare now.

That makes sense, it only happens when im 'out bush' so to speak so i guess someone thought they map resolution didnt need to be that good.

The "Refidex" street directories familiar to older Brisbane people used to show all surveyed roads whether they existed or not. Could be a PIA.

I see by you sig you are in the Toowoomba area.I've used 3 types (inc garmin and tomtom) in that area from gaton on and diff mapping has roads that have never been, that may be and could be.It sure is fun coming through the back ways (rockmount etc) at night.;)
fwiw the cheap aldi one worked best:o(for mapping)

I have had similar experience, particularly in the Caboolture / Woodford area, a check with Council reveals there is either a disused road or a gazetted road that has never been formed in that location.

This can be a PITA particularly when you come to a roundabout and get advised to " At roundabout, Take second exit" and find yourself travelling back over ground that you just traversed
