If I hot dip a 110 firewall will it warp?
Has anyone done this? Can you get pre gal'd ones?
cheers!

Have a look at this thread -

Think you can see some rippling.

Had mine done with good results, you can only just see some faint rippling/warping on the footwells if you look for it.The bulkhead didn't twist or warp and lined up as good as it did before removal,I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. One tip is to drill some holes through the areas which are double skinned like where the pedal box's mount,it stops the air cavity between the two layers from expanding during the process.By doing this the gal gets right inside the cavity and seals it up,otherwise it will rust between the two layers.
Cheers Eric.

I have done a couple of series firewalls. Both turned out fine. Ripling in the footwells and behind the dash.
One ended up about 1" wider than the bolts (at the legs), but could easily be pulled in

what sort of money for a firewall, and chassis? and what sort of prep work was needed??

No idea on $$$, but the gal places want everything to be completely free of paint and have plenty of drain holes.

I have done a Series 2 firewall with no major problems but they have more bracing than a 110 firewall.
RAR110 had major issues with his 110 firewall (done by the previous owner). I have seen others that were OK.
I chickened out with my 110 firewall and had it blasted and zinc sprayed.
I think some sacrificial bracing bolted to the lower mounts would be good insurance to prevent twisting eg a piece of 75mm rhs with a a couple of tabs welded to it at each end - drill a 13mm hole in each tab then bolt the firewall to it at the base with plenty of silicone on the bolts. Molten zinc wont stick to silicone and will let you get the bolts out the mounts when its done. The galvanisers can also sling the firewall from the rhs when its dipped.

My 110 chassis cost me $300 to dip + $150 to sandblast
+ 2 lots of car trailer hire + a lot of time stripping and reassembling.
