I'm remaking seat bases at the moment and wondered if anyone has a base that still has an intact retaining strap and could post a picture of it.

Not sure how original my bases are but I'll use them as a pattern. They fit OK but the tongues that locate in the bulkhead have broken and been repaired.
From the timber locating strip the strap would appear to have been approx 1/2" wide. I'm guessing it was leather with a hole/slot to locate on the stud (pn 302463). I'd like to get an idea of the shape & colour of the strap.
My seat bases have been recovered in the past so I may just remove the nails and re-use the existing foam & cover, I'll probably make a second set of bases to get recovered in the future.

I've made a template for the bases and will be heading off to my local woodwork club to make use of their bandsaw etc. (much easier than using a jigsaw) to cut out some 12mm exterior grade ply......

From memory they are the same as on the 2a. About 2cm wide brown leather about 4mm thick and with either an oval hole with the width the same as the narrowest part of the peg it goes on, or with a hole that size and a slit about 2cm back towards the seat cushion. In either case the hole is about 4cm from the end to give something to hang onto to undo it.

Numpty's Missus had a 'sticky' with seat specs (series 1 bits n pieces) posted Nov 08 but locked now and diagrams too small to read.

Maybe, if we both ask nicely , they can be posted again?

Is this what you are after: -

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/08/1477.jpg

If so the dimensions are as follows: -

Length: 5" (12.5cm)
width: 1" (2.5cm)
Slot: 3/4 " long (2cm)
Distance of end of slot from end of strap: 1 2/20" (3cm).
Round hole is 3/20th" from end of strap.

Any leather worker can make them for you, I used 1/2 cm thick hard chrome leather to make mine.

Thanks everyone for the replies, photos & links.

I'm able to make the strap just needed to see what it looks like. Now I either need to buy an old belt from an Op Shop or visit Lefflers in Melbourne Leffler Leather Melbourne, Upholstery Leather, Cow Hide Rugs, Natural Leather as well as Natural Dyed Leather. (http://www.leffler.com.au/)

Many thanks,

Colin

Gromit, better off going the cowhide...You can buy half a hide or else ask to have a rummage through their scrap pieces box, should be able to get sufficient pieces to do enough straps.

For the slot I used a hole punch, punched two holes at the end of the marked slot and then just cut between the two holes...use a steel ruler as a guide for cutting and make sure you uses a real sharp scalpel.

You can then burnish the edges with a piece of round steel rod then give it a coat of sealer.
