got a little bit of a story to tell about something that happened to me today in the Rangie!
I decided to drive into work today to give the Rangie a good run as i usually Train it into work most days. I left work at 6:30pm pulled out of the Carpark onto City Rd in Peak Hour traffic. There i am at a standstill then the cars in front begin to move ahead. i let me foot off the brake and tap the throttle..............and straight to the floor it goes!....... oh bummer!:o
i was directley under the Arts Centre outbound with no Accelerator cars behind me tooting away....while im trying to figure out what to do next. i thought i gota get it on the side of the road outa the way of hundres of unpatient Melbournian Motorists! i had the chance to pull a U-Turn onto Sturt St. so i did that with the help of my Manual Choke, which thankfully got the rangie moving enough to about 10km/hr i puller her over to a loading zone on the left. and to top it off it was one of those days my tool box wasnt in the vehicle! no screwdrivers either! :wasntme:
anyways i did have a small led torch handy so first thing was to locate and find out why the throttle had broken. i wonderd did the cable snap? nope......i found the problem under the air cleaner where the cable connects to the kickdown linkage (Auto box), the split pin was missing couldnt even find it.
i have no tools its 6:45pm so i call RACV they send someone out in approx 30mins. so ill wait .wait..............wait..........and..........wait . its 7:30 now, so i start thinking of what i can do to kill some time. hmmm no tools i had to get the air cleaner off to get to the pin on the kickdown linkage. i figured well i can use a 5 cent coin to undo the hose clamps, and it worked.
once i removed the air cleaner, i re connected the throttle cable end to the pin through to the kickdown connector, placed the washer all i need is a split pin so i had a look on the road around me for anything and outa the blue i see a staple, just one Staple! i pick it up bend one end flat, put it through the hole on the linkage pin and Whulla! done ............but where was mr RACV. i rang them it was now 8pm to tell them i fixed my beast and im heading home, cancel the callout.
she said the fella came around 7pm he could'nt find me and thought that i went home.....they didnt even ring me to see where i was........huh!
anyways i got my self out of trouble tonight with a 5 cent coin and a staple...!
it was fun!
Cya, Chris!
