Landscapes

I don't think it has been done before, at least not this year.

By landscape I mean a photo where the setting and the physical environment of the shot is the shot. There can be other items in the shot (people, cars, etc.). It doesn't even have to be outside, if you can create a photo where the environment/background works inside that is fine. I'm thinking a sports stadium shot of the crowd would count.

Special judging criteria:

1: The photo should make the observer wish they were there when the photo was taken.

Rules:

See here (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/camera-corner/82504-photo-comp-rules.html) for the general rules.

This comp's rules..

1. One or two pictures acceptable.

2. Both must be taken within the last 12 months (after 6th August 2008).

3: Format is your choice. Pano and landscape are normal, but portrait can also work well.

4: Post processing not limited.

5: Colour, mono, IR is your choice.

Entries close at 10pm Sunday 16th August.

Happy snapping!

Cheers
Steve

edit... whoops just read the rule on photo not being more than 12 months old. This was taken mid-2006 during an LROC basic driver training. Still... it's one of my favorite landscape photo's nonetheless.

Can a mod please edit the thread title to change the date to 23rd?

The 16th is correct date.

Photo comp #20 finishes on the 9th (tomorrow) so #21 finishes a week later.

OK, the date is back to 16th. Sorry for the confusion.

That's nice. I would have messed around with it to get more grays and less monochrome and it just wouldn't have worked. I'll have to try that technique on some of mine.

to be honest there are a few that have not kept to that rule since it was laid down....

and it needs to be said that perhaps not everyone knows how to do it....:)

I dunno. The blue one leads your eyes down the river with the help of the red one, not the other way around.

Sorry DB. I just can't let that one get through.
Those big coloured plastic things are canoes.

This is a kayak.

no the red one doesn't lead you down the river.......but i did say powerful image it doesn't have to lead you down the river to be poweful..well I don't think so anyway.....the fact that the red stands out so much with the cool blue/green tint of the landscape behind gives more of a significant message I think, especially with the river trailing off behind. the blue one and the red one combined do direct your eye up the river its just a shame the blue CANOE;) is cut of at the edge of the frame

the image doesn't make me think oh I would like to go there....it makes me thing I wonder where they have been:) The more I look at it the more I love it well done john its a fantasic shot I think

Not entirely sure how Stirlsilver's shot meets the requirement of wanting to be where the photo was taken as I did actually fly to The Rockies this week to take my shot (I stayed in the hotel where The Shining was written). Must be a glutton for punishment. Or want the miles...
