Ill be looking at making my own camper trailer in this second half of the year. Doing a little bit of research on what camper tents are available and at what price.

Those that have them, can you place up a link and thoughts on your camper tent (of course the :rulez: applies to photos)

This is something im looking for, in regards to space, layout and construction.

They have them made in China to their specs, excellent quality.

Try Outback Campers as they make the trailers, poles and most important for you they make all the tents and having had one that was pushed beyond its limits all I can say they are top tradespeople and make top units.
The only thing I would want it to have the door zip separate across the bottom including the velcro bottom as most only have velcro or a zip. If you trip on a single zip door it can be destroyed by tripping on it (:imwithstupid: I know form the first unnamed camper) leaving you open to the elements or velcro can leave gaps.

Outback Campers in Vic can make it to suit your needs and again they are tops in our books after smashing the trailer :oops2:it all held together incredably well :eek2:.
Last I heard they still have my trailer for a runabout.

Well thought out tents ideas and AUSSIE MADE AND PROUD:arms::arms::BigThumb:

I've just ordered a Tambo tent for my trailer.
Great quality, all made here in Melbourne using the best Australian canvas.
About $4000 for the tent.

Hi I emailed camper trailer company's to ask how much for aussie made tent for cash (folding type) and picked a tent with awning with walls for 5k made from good aussie canvas. I would stay away from china made onces if you have a budget around the 4-5 k

Is your trailer standard height for an off road trailer. My trailer has 800mm high sides so i needed it to be custom made. Just another advantage of buying Australian made!

I am planning on building my trailer (well, my bro will, ill help) and it will be 500mm sides, but not sure how far the top of trailer will be from ground as most canvas tents cater for around 1000mm.

I've got A Sar Major Off Road Camper.
Sar Major is a family owned S. Aust company that has been making canvas products for years.
My camper cost $6K new from them a few years ago, the next closest price for something similar was over $10K. Camper trailer and tent are both made inhouse, saving you heaps.
They will make a tent to suit your trailer.

Interesting.... I didn't know Tambo sold their tents separately.

Stooge I have a Tambo Cooper camper - so I guess the same tent as vogue mentions above.

Mine is now about 4- 5 years old now - excellent bit of gear and you won't find someone more interesting in assisting their customers than Tambo - before and after sale...

Great people to deal with.

Cheers Mark

Yeah i'll attach some more pic's !
I made the internal part of the trailer come all the way out to the edge as I did not need to store any Jerry cans or gas bottles (can carry enough fuel on vehicle and my stove runs on shelite !) Also this gave me more loading space and I designed it so that when the tent is up there are two drop down flaps in the tent that access the inside of the trailer, in the back opening I have the inverter, 12 v socerts, 240 power point (when on mains) and the switch panel for the Tent led lights, solar panel and water pump, the other opening I can store our bags of cloths etc and get them out from inside the tent !!, I still want to design a draw that will slide out of this spot with all our cloths etc in it !! (one day :) )

Cheers and good luck with yours.

My mate bought an extreme version. About the only thing extreme was the price.
Build quality average, 2nd hand tyres, average welding, minimal protection for water tank, plumbing terrible, no gas struts or hinges to open trailer from the top - toolbox nice, tent looks like the cheap versions imported from china (i have one :( ), no seal between tent and top of trailer and rear trailer door - sucks dust and water in!
Oh and the special offer "buy quick" has been running for a while and continues.

Sorry to rain on your parade but if you haven't paid yet have a bit more of a look around there are better ones out there. Pay for a good heavy duty trailer as a start
Cheers,
Remy

They make their own trailers now so its not those Mario’s trailer or the Amak ones anymore, its a much better design and more stable trailer.
Keep in mind that it is a budget trailer but at the same time its good value for money. its exactly what we have been looking for and prefect for something we will use 5-6 times a year, we can also detach the tent and use it as just a trailer aswell.

we don’t have any problems opening the main tent section it takes us 7min even quicker then then what they quoted us.. i would suggest if anyone is in the market to just have a look in person. we are very happy with the quality and my husband is a boiler welder, their tent has been upgraded and now since they build their own trailers. you cant beat it for the price check the showroom out. they also released 2 new alloy trailers this months front cover of camper trailer Australia and i saw them on Ch10 last week on the pat 4x4 adventure show

Excellent news!
My friend seasoned the GIC canvas very well but the annex still leaks. The main section was OK. Maybe you got lucky. I just spent a month camping around the forster area (9 days straight of rain) and every camper trailer i saw with the exception of one had tarps over them for the weather. When the canvas is new and tight then they tend to hold up ok. The water drains off. After a while the canvas will stretch and the problems begin as small sags in the canvas allow water to pool, encouraging more stretching etc. Hope yours continues to be a good one.
Cheers,
Remy

I remember my parents having a camper like this when I was younger. Whenever we stayed somewhere where there was likely to be alot of rain we always put a tarp over the top as another layer of protection. It doesn't hurt & when I get one for myself I will do it, even if the camper doesn't collect pools yet.
