Hi all,
Have managed to get a re-issue of the original plates for my 86 inch :)
Can see plenty of pics on where these mounted up on the front guard but not sure what was original for the back.
Anybody got any pics? The plate as is is too wide for the tub but no light if I mount it in the tailgate. My 48 has it folded around the tub ... maybe that's the way?
Thanks

All the ones I can remember, including the one I owned in the sixties, had the number plate on a bracket on the tailgate with a light attached, which pivoted so as to still display the plate when the the tailgate is down.
See attached picture - sorry I don't have a better picture!
The same or at least very similar gadget was used right through until the end of Series 3 production. Any place that wrecks Series Landrovers should be able to supply one.

thanks guys,
that seems to make more sense. can then have a longer load in the back and keep plate visible. If I mount it straight to the tailgate that wouldn't work.

Those number plate brakets were also used on US S1's. A bloke there had some made up not that long ago and offered them to anyone else
