Engine and g/box weight?

Hey all,
As the title says dose anyone know the weight of the engine and gearbox combination, Allso the weight of each seperate item?
I will be removing them from the chassis soon and will be hiring/ buying a hoist and need to know what size I should get.
Any info would help heeps.

you need to be able to lift 500kg to lift them both at once....

I cant get the online catalogs to work ATM if I can I'll post up the one I usually use

Teri Ann Wakeman lists the engine weight at 204 kg, see

She doesn't say if this is inclusive of manifolds, starter and so on.

Two people can easily lift a gearbox plus transfer case, and I can move one around by myself, one end at a time. Best guess would be 50 kg, definitely well under 100 kg.

Bottom line, both together would be under 300kg.

I bought a 1 tonne block and tackle on ebay for $49, plus $15 delivery. No problems at all to get the engine out, see www.greenacre.biz (http://www.greenacre.biz) for pictures.

When I put them back (Real Soon Now) I'll put the engine and gearbox back as a single unit - much easier than balancing the buggers on the engine mounts while you try to mate them.

the trick to that is a block of pine wood under the cross member...

I prefer putting them in seperately unless the firewall is off in which case do them together.

Thanks for all the replies guys I will look around for a 500k hoist.
The other option is maybe a steel A frame and a block and tackle, what do you think?

The firewall came off this morning and as I will be storing the engine and box until the chassia is done I dont realy want to split it yet.
