hi there all
If anyone can help - I am after the spring which hooks on the back of the brake pedel to the switch.
I have modified several different types but nothing sucessful as of yet. It has to be the right tension and most importently not put any limits on the brake pedal.
If anyone can help please let me know.
Thanks in advancve

I used a generic spring from one of those Champion packets. I then adjusted a length of wire that I used to connect it to the brake light switch until it was functioning correctly.

Thats correct - re-adjust the spring tension then they dont work......
Thanks Aaron.....will try again but have not had any luck with using these in the past

on the origional switch, is it possible to place a spring on the other side of the flat shaft, that way it will pull it back and cut the curcuit?

Re brake springs. The switch is prone to filling with water and dirt.
I remember it was always playing up on my 80" back in the 70's
On my 80" i am doing i made a T piece between the M/cyl and pipe
to rear and put a hydraulic switch whitch should be more reliable.
The t piece is off the banjo on top of the rear diff. As it is high up on the chassis you can't see it. I may put the lucas switch back just for show
the spring won't realy matter just a thought........Mark

With using flat soilid shaft could potentially cause brake failure as it would restrict the pedal movement (I think this is what your referring to)
The switch is prone to filling with water and dirt.
I believe when fitted in the factory they are mounted up side down which can cause the casting to fill with dirt and.........
I have seen quite a few done this way - to prevent this I have mounted it on top of the mounting plate which seals the internals from the out side ellements..........
I do like the idea or moving-modifying the switch will have to put some thought into this - possibly micro switch near the pedal?
All the best

this what i did today with my brake switch, i positioned a small spring on the other side to pull the flat shaft back and break the circuit therefore the brake lights now turn off when i take my foot off the brake pedal.

I may have missed something. Are we talking about an 80", or a later series one Land Rover? The 80" has the switch mounted on the crossmember that goes beneath the bellhousing.

There was a few Genuine lucas ones on ebay a few months ago. And i managed to find 2 at a swapmeet.
They fit perfect and work a treat.
