Has anyone put a gas strut on a Kaymar tyre carrier?

Looking at pics of gas struts fitted to rear doors, I thought someone must have fitted one to a tyre carrier. Putting in the locking open pin is such a pain and I have lost count of how many pins I have lost as the wire gets cut after getting caught between the moving pieces. I have seen gas struts on lesser 4WDs with rear step bumpers.

I'm with you there Jeff, not seen any mods as yet but will be fitting one soon - surely it can't be difficult???

This wont help you but i have fitted one to a kaymar rear tyre carrier on my defender. I say it wont help because my car is in at ARB at the moment and i dont know when it will be back.
