View Full Version : Zenith carbie overhaul

I'm halfway through overhauling the Zenith 361V from my Series 3. On advice from those more knowlegeable than me, amongst other thing I want to flat off the mating surfaces of the emulsion block, body and top cover. So far so good. However, in the way of shop manuals, mine says simply "lift out" the accelerator pump piston from the emulsion block. Yeah right! I haven't been able to get mine out by any means, and I'm loth to apply any more force to what appears to be made of plastic. It's also the only part that doesn't come in the rebuild kit! I tried blowing it out via the ball inlet valve, but succeeded only in disloging the ball!
What am I missing here? Any advice appreciated!

Once the emulsion block is out of the way it should just fall out. In fact you usually have to be careful when you lift the emulsion block off. If it is not then there must be a fair bit of gunk in there. Perhaps spray a carbie cleaner in rather than air and that might free the gunk. It does need to be able to move freely as that is how it pumps so you want to avoid damaging it. The ball is held in with a retaining spring so that shouldn't come out unless you want it to.

Thanks for that TimJ. Fall out it didn't! I've tried pulling (gently!) on it & have given it a pretty good spray - no luck yet but I'll leave it a while. I guess the ball valve has become unseated as the ball's no longer visible from the outside of the housing - so I guess that means it'll have to come out!
Cheers
