I see a lot of tyre threads over the various forums bag the OEM Wranglers supplied on most D3's.

Just wondering why as not many threads seem to give a reason.

Mine have done close to 40,000k (99%) on tar and I've done the other 1% over the last few weeks on the dirt. They seem fine to me.

Are they really a poor option for a road biased tyre that occassionaly does some light offroad?

Well, I got ~45000 out of the first set and only 25000 out of the second.

At $455 per tyre that's not good enough.

Nothing wrong with them on the road as long as you rotate them regularly. I got 50k from mine. Off road they're useless for anything but sand. No grip on anything slippery and when deflated, the side walls bulge out too much exposing the tyre to severe damage (I broke 2 in this fashion).

Got < 30,000 ks out of mine and wrecked one revering onto a kerb :o cut the sidewall like a knife.
Also they got puntured by stones very regularly.

They are not a bad all round tyre (I kept up with a raised Pootrol at Menai) but if you want an all round road biased tyre go for the Cooper HT+ which never seemed to get punctures.

On our '05 D3 we were very disappointed about the milage we got from the tyres having come from the standard Michelin fit of a '01 D2 which got over 80000 km.

We are back on the Wranglers as we bought a new D3 back in Feb this year. We'll keep a closer eye on this set and ensure adequate rotation.

What is the recommended rotation mileage for the D3?
Do they recommend rotation of all 5 tyres?
Nissan recommend doing 4 on the Pathie every 5000k,
I have done all 5 but at more like 7-8000k

A good question. I've just poured over the manual and cannot find any reference to rotation in the relevant section but I'm going to have another look.

Here is an earlier thread on the subject
