D2 rear door latch

The rear door latch on my D2 does not open from the inside.
I have heard that the D1 latches could brake a spring on the inside.
What is the common problem with D2 latches?
I have to replace the spare wheel bracket this weekend and want to do btoh the same time.

only problem I've had or heard about has been the mechanism getting clogged with dust, a good clean and dust with graphite once a year and its fine. Could be that the connector rod has come unclipped from the inside handle????

Connector rod is not unclipped. Saw that some while back.
The bracker cracked from driving gravel roads. Probably due to over tightning of bolts. I have heard of this problem before as the bracket is made of rather thin material.

Usualy the door won't unlock at all, not just the inside handle.

Pull the inside handle off and use the rod to try and open the lock.
That will eliminate the adjustment.

My 2002 D2 rear door would not open at all due to gummed up catches. I just drove around for a week, trying it every time I stopped, and eventually it opened. Removing it was fairly easy (after you get a key for the ****** star head bolts). Just remove the door trim, unclip the rods and power wires and undo the 3 bolts on the end of the door. Wash out with petrol or degreaser, I did not protect the electrical bit but I also did not submerge it. A blow out with air would be nice. Check several times that the lock mechanical mechanism works by closing to each of the stages with a screwdriver and releasing it. Lube with dry graphite powder. Recheck it still works and then reinstall.

I eventually got around to fixing the door latch and wheel bracket.
Door lacth was very dity. Cleaned it and works again.
I did lube it with bicucle wax type chain lube.
It dries to just a wax and does not atract dust.

If your rear door wont open, make sure the outside handle has come fully down first. If it doesn't drop that last mm it can stop it resetting. So just pull it down. My wife discovered this, much to my frustration.:mad:

Pommie car made for Pommie conditions and does not like dust. Especially bulldust.

When/if you take it out to clean it out put some graphite into it (don't put anyting oily/greasy into it ) and then wrap as much of it up in clingwrap and duct tape or similar before you put it back.

Helps keep the dust out
