Hi all.
I am looking at buying a second hand d3, probably an 05 model due to price and wanted to know how much of an advantage the diff lock would be for fairly serious four wheel driving?
Is it worth waiting round for a vehicle with one or would the traction control be adequate?
Also does the traction control work for long periods of time?
Thanks Rob

What he said.

Specifically, it can (but not always) turn a medium track to an easy, and a hard to a medium. This was demonstrated a couple of weeks ago when I had ten D3s out in a forest and the e-diff cars did a rutted uphill far, far easier than the ones without.

Yes, the traction control runs for long periods of time. At least, I've never managed to run it out, and I dare say I've probably gone fairly hard with D3s. If you're thinking of the Pajero, which is well known for giving up ETC, it's much, much longer lived. That I can attest to.

Yes it is worth the wait if you intend any form of offroad touring, but even without the D3 is very good offroad indeed.

As rmp said my experience also, would recommend getting one but you will have to wait.
I think you will find it harder to find one with he e-diff but if you are patient I am sure you will be rewarded.
