Following Derek's experience:

I strongly recommend that all Puma owners check their intercooler hoses.

I checked mine this morning and there were the beginnings of wear showing. It is now cable tied (two 200mm ties linked) to the spigot on the air filter box.It is easliy checked and fixed by sliding under the front of the car.

I mentioned this issue after my around Australia trip last year. My dealer fitted a new hose which for some reason clears the rub point. Maybe LRA have a modified hose - that was the impression they gave me. So it might pay to get this sorted under warranty rather than just do the cable tie fix.

Now I thought that I would dig this one up following a strained conversation with the service department at a well known dealership.

I added the turbo hose issue to the "look at list" having hoisted mine up with cable ties.

Now apparently according to the "brains" there and the suited gentleman who relayed the technical advice...my rubbing issue is as the result of the after market snorkel installation..

The hose in question is nowhere near where the Snorkel man goes.

At least I have the response in writing so a stiletto like response will be penned by me in response.

It's like trying to wade through treacle though.

It seems to me that they think we live in a knowledge vacuum whereas they think that they are the font of all knowledge with respect to Land Rover.

Fortunately our collective brains trust here is greater than theirs. :D

Well here's another one for the record... Since back in September my 130 has been suffering from driveline noises/vibrations. The vehicle has been at 3 different dealers, on 4 separate occasions, and was given 4 mis-diagnoses. In the end ... clearly running out of options for fobbing me off ... the final dealer workshop (and then of course LRA) blamed it on my aftermarket accessories. So I went to the provider of said accessories to have them check them out, and not surprisingly they found no problems. What's more, within a day they had the answer to my real problem, and sure enough, it's related to an unmodifed vehicle component ... they also have a fix for it! I will go into more details in a separate thread once I get the fix applied, but the point I would like to make is:

Why are 3 authorised Land Rover dealers unable to diagnose a problem during a total of 9 days in the workshops, that it has taken an independent shop (and not even one that specialises in LRs) a single day to diagnose? I think I know the answer...

G'day blokes,

Just pulled the intercooler to turbo hose off "to check", sure enough, it is rubbing, not split yet but off to get a new hose tomorrow. Any of you blokes changed this hose, is the LR replacement any different, if not, is the cable tie the best way out? Seems to be a bolt on the wheel arch side - not on the steering linkage, that is rubbing. 2007 Puma: 55,000km.

Thanks.

I took a different approach, replacing most of the hoses with metal tube and overcame any lag as well - (see thread below). This option probably isn't much more expensive than replacement hoses. The dearest part was the clamps and no matter what hose you chose, they require bullet proof clamps.

I replaced top and bottom hoses with TeraFirma silicon units, for some reason they clear the steering shaft by 10mm or so.

Possibly slightly different angle due to the AlliSport intercooler.

OK, thanks for your help on this one you blokes.

A bit of an update - took the hose (not split or in danger of failure but, a definite mark where it was rubbing) to LR for a replacement - LR genuine $155 !!!! Seeya later. Back home and the old hose went back on - but with a 3/4 section of 50mm thick wall poly pipe 'reinforcing' around the hose at the trouble spot - on the weekend it gets cable tied to the airbox. That'll do and I'm $155 the richer. I see silicon sets on e-bay for $260-ish.

That's the next move.

I got caught out on the side of the highway in the rain just under 2 hours from home in my brand new sub 1500km 2.2l Defender. The hose had not rubbed on the steering joint but on the belt that sits just near by. A slow drive into the nearest town for a for a make shift repair was my best option as I was heading bush for the weekend. I did make it to my destination and home on the repair but a really poor experience in a brand new vehicle.

The real issue arises once the hose is hot as it gets much softer and far more pliable, my dealer has advised that these hoses now come out of the factory with a sleeve and a retaining bracket both of which will be fitted to my truck under warranty once they arrive from England.

I urge others to check their turbo cooler hose for wear as it is a simple check that will take less then 5 mins. Might also be worth mentioning to your dealer at your next service if they can sort the issue out before if becomes an issue with the new parts
