Well l arrived back last night from Emu Creek and what a busy couple of days.
The guys averaged 10 plus hours of straight comp on saturday.
The team were fantastic to watch & no doubt some stories will be told.
I will post some brief footage later & more footage will be at the next meeting.
All GCLRO members should be very proud of the performance of all the guys who competed & their representation of the club:).
P.S. Jess & Grimace worked very hard to keep the guys fed and watered.
Special thanks should be conveyed also for their great contribution, otherwise
the team would of not had any time to eat properly during the comp to keep their energy up !!!

Cheers for the update Dave. I tried calling a few of them last night but all their mobiles were off or out of signal.
Can't wait to see some pics and footage.

Congratulations to the Rovernutters for their efforts on Friday night and all of Saturday. It was well worth the drive down and would have been better if we could have spectated all events (hard due to the competition format). Anyway here are some photos from Saturday. I will do up a CD for all the competitors and a couple of extras and bring them to the next meeting.

The objective was to get a spare tyre and first aid kit across the creek.

The team being briefed before a good driving stage. There was a photographer on the climb on the other side of the hill that said they were the first people to drive the hill that day. Unfortunately Trav had some problems with the Dunga though.

Here is a quick bit of vid of the Rovernutters in action.
Proper footage will go on disk & hopefully be played at next meeting.
Bit of damage & breakage, but nothing major on the day.
Best if l let the guys upon their return give their version of how
the whole comp went.
All participants will be just plain stuffed when they get home, as they were up at 05:00am each day & still going well into the night,
then have to pack up camp & drive a further 3 hrs to get home:zzz::closedeyes:>
TOP EFFORT ALL ROUND !!!:BigThumb:

Just to give you an idea of this course shown, you are timed to complete a round circuit. (Winching is allowed). The course is very rocky and uneven, especially on the bottom to top part of the course.
The comment made by the camera man who was next to us was "No other team has managed to get up this hill without a winch")>
So what does Justin & Greg do ! A puff of diesel smoke & whistle & bellow of the mighty Izuzu at the limiter and straight to the top ! (Awsome to watch)
Phillipe & Bolts also made it to the top with some hold ups, but did the job also. (great effort)>
Trav in the Dunga with Camo were the last to ride to the top.
Trav was going very well to until we heard a loud tinny crack.
We all said oh S**t, what was that !!??
Then we noticed the front wheels were facing opposite directions.
First thought came to mind was a broken steering arm or the like>
Camo jumps out and advises that is only a tie rod on the left side that has jumped off. The split pin came out and the nut vibrated off the tie rod thread.
The thread on the tie rod was ok, then Harry leaped into action.,
A bit of something of this & something off that and Harry had it fitted in around 5 mins (Great effort).
The mighty Dunga lives to fight on.
Justin winched Trav just to be sure to the top and the boys completed the course.
Trav also would of made it up the hill for sure. (Lucky an easy fix).
This is only one of many tasks that team worked as a team and should be congratulated.
After Justins amazing run up the rock covered track, he noticed oil coming out of the front diff.
The Rangie even with the front diff guard had suffered some damage.
It was a previous crack from some time ago that had reopened.
So back to camp for some running repairs then back on the track for another task.
Overall from the time l was there, no real major damage to report and top effort by the guys.:)

Big thanks to Harry for looking after us. Big thanks to Grimace & Jess for a fantastic job feeding and hydrating us. Was a great site coming back to camp to a set out feast.
Once again thanks to the whole team and support crew for a great weekend.

what a trip!
i wish to thank the team, killer, the supporters, and a huge thank you to jess and grimace.
these two set up a huge covered area, as soon as we got there, and had a meal on the table almost instantly, they had good food for us and it was ready for us each time we needed a break through out the weekend, including special meals prepared for killer [mick] as he would return later than the team from his 'marshalling' duties
this included being up at ridiculous hours saturday and sunday morming.
without their support we as a team would not have been able to do what we did.
thank you.
to mick, you volunteered to marshall for the event, and was left out in the dark, the bush, and the hot sun all day, with 5.00 am starts and midnight finishes,
thank you.
the supporters, thank you for coming down and assisting us, it gave us all a lift to hear your reports of how we were doing, as you were able to give us some comparision with the other teams.
and the team,
everyone performed very well and we achieved some mammoth tasks and challenging driving, with no major damage to cars or people, although we tried to kill justin friday night at the tug of war, and greg on sat morn, dropping a tree on him at the see-saw logs, trav by ripping his foot off and phillipe with a pair of stillsons, sorry, it was my fault .
we gave chief navigator 'greg' some challenging gps points and he found the way for us.
justin powered the bullet proof isuzu up and it went there,
phillipe and bolts followed on in good time with trav and camo in the dunga pushing them from the rear [this was the car order for the event]
we won the 'pull the car with a high-lift jack stage' in record time, and the team came in 13th overall out of 15 teams, and considering this our first event and we did not attempt quite a few stages, this was an excellent result.
and we were able to drive the cars home - way better result than some others,
we even supported other teams with emergency parts and tools [including supplying the winning team with parts to keep their rr going] courtesy of phillipe's trailer spares
travs dunga is now a bit longer from being the 'dead' car in one stage, where it had to be towed to move forward and streched aft to stop, even though justin tried to shorten it a bit!
justin's torqit smoked the opposition in the speed trial and phillipe's v8 could he heard on full song making those beautiful sounds only a v8 can do with the dunga echoing the chorus in the dust, lights blazing.
all in all an excellent trip and a big thank you all from me.

Ditto ditto ditto Harry
Got up this morning and surveyed the old girl. The diff pan must have let go over night and the carport had a drink:eek:. Kathryn just calmly said ( as she was leaving for school) oh the Rangy is leaking a bit of oil I think. About a metre in diameter of Phillipe's nice clean fresh gear oil mind you.------woops
But when you think about it, we punched above our weight considering the vehicles we were up against. Top team effort.

Yes a great weekend and thanks to Harry for being team manager, did a bloody good job. Grimace and Jess for keeping us fed and putting up with my fussy eating ways and also all the team who all did a cracking job.
My poor ankle is healing nicely and the old man let me have the day off work for it to recover a bit more. I can walk on it but it's still not 100%. The bruise on the inside of my foot is pretty ugly so it could be a ligament tear (will be off to the docs if it's still not healing properly). The injury handicaped me a bit from pitching in a bit more and I raced all day on it and had to be very careful.
Support crew were great cheering the mighty dunga on and Justin and Philippes weapns of course. The poor dunga was closer to the ground than nearly all the vehicles competeing but it proves you don'
t need to have the most expensive vehicle to compete or have a bit of fun (all in what project dunga was about in the first place).
Damage report- One loose tie rod end. Fixed by Harry (thanks heaps). No nylock nuts so harry hammerd the thread over, may come loose but it wouldn't fall off . Two busted tailights (one was running into Dan s Disco as that bloody helmet cut my sideways vision off and the other when Justin gave the dunga a nudge in the dead car stage). Two bent tailgate struts when the tailgate flew open during the 'hammering the **** out of you car' stage as I like to call it and a few extra character dents to add for good measure.
As Justin said, we all drove home unlike some of the other teams who were dragged or had to be trailerd home. Funnily as Bolts brought up over the weekend we were the only brand specific team competeing, there were a few Jeeps, etc.. but not as a Jeep only team for example (proves that LR owmers stick to there own all for a good reason).
I will say I learnt a fair bit and probably more than I have in 13 years I have been into 4WDing and Land Rovers. I'll definatly will be front the dunga (or dunga II) up again for the Logan Challenge next year (some bigger runbber and a bit more suspension height may be in order though). We should also be a bit more prepared and could do even better than 13th but great result for a first time.

Well most of need to said has been said already, what a great weekend and shows what a great club we have.
Start with the thanks - Big one to harry as team manager kept us going and on track to each stage and sorting out the teams events, Jess and Grimace - who kept and ran one of best camp set ups, with food, drinks and being up feeding us at any hour of the day or night we required it, with out them we as team would not have eaten....... To the support crew thanks for coming down and cheering us on, good to have support at any time, Mick thanks for your time as without people working the stages we would not have a comp.
To the team, what a great effort guys thanks for allowing me to be part of a great team which just worked so well the whole weekend even when tired sore and stiff, but we all kept going and all just pulled their weight... (MickG thanks for pulling out - you loss my gain :p) .
We have learnt a lot about this weekend and what some people call "road legal" - we were from day one we were up against non std vehicles in every way, I know we were the only one make team, we were also one of the very few teams that drove our cars into the park and then drove them home afterwards, everyone else seemed to trailer them in and trailer them out again at the end in a lot worse condition that they drove in, our damage was very minor compared to everyone else, but then we are Landrovers ;)
In all there were 38 stages over 2days and nights, on the 1st night was 8 stages of tasks, no driving at all, and we now know not to bother doing them next year as it nearly killed all of us in the 1st night, the events included tug of war, attach snap straps blind folded ect ect, after the tug of war which had to be pulled for 10 mins, it nearly killed all of us we should have just pulled the pin and head back to camp but in true spirit we kept going and completed 7 of 8 stages. That got us back to camp at 11:30pm.
Saturday was a call at 5:30am for a drivers meeting at 6:00am and the 1st event at 6:30am. So a quick bite and we are onto the 1st stage and away we went for the day, some very interesting task and some equal interesting drives every even was timed and even collecting you next stage was timed as well............ We did building sea saw track, winching a car backwards using your own winch forward, hill climbs, winching 3 cars up a hill, hand winch a car using a hi lift jack (which we won that stage) By the end of the day we were all very drained both physically and mentally and called it a day by 4:45pm heading back to camp. Drivers briefing at 6:30pm and the night stages were on at 7:30pm the team called it a night and sat out the night stages, which we were gald we did as the next morning the carnage for the night stage was very high and some teams did not get back till after 2:00am.
The next morning we were on the go at 6:00am again and off to the 1st stage by 7:00am, this was a much better day as it was more what our club is about and we took on all the driving stages , which included a 3 recover challenge using different methods of recover on the 3 vehicles, a flat out race over the motor cross course, gps way points, dead car tow over an obstical course. We were going well till stikman and I drove over some grass looking for gps point and bent the steering arm, at which time it was 12:30 time for lunch and close of the event.
We headed back to camp all tired and very dusty to fix cars, change tyres, pack up camp, head over for prize giving and raffles and then head home at around 5:00pm.
Of the 38 stages we completed around 25 of them and yet still pulled 13 place and won 1 stage as well, but more important the club was held in good light we learnt a lot and we all drove out in the vehicles that we competed in all weekend.
Thanks to the club for its support and we look forward to the next event.

Well firstly thank you for all the kind comments re the camp crew!
I myself having completed one logan challenge years ago though I had prepared/warned the boys for what may have been a head of them prior to the competition. I WAS WRONG.
This years event was, in my humble opinion, way more taxing on both the human body and the mechanicals.
The team as a whole endured some pretty intense scenarios, physically working their bodys to the ground. The time given for rest was minimal.
I know for next year, if it is goin to be this hard, a very large water cooler will be introduced and brought to the staging area through out the day.
I felt for the guys when they would return to camp battered and buggered. I do know that everyone has learnt a lot from the last three days, myself included.
I just want to congratulate the team on their efforts, the work they put in to have a go at this was simply outstanding.
It was a shame not being able to see as much as I would have liked, but I have known the logan challenge has never been a spectator friendly event.
I am in two minds about the position to take next year. Either way I definately want to be there, and hopefully fluffy can come too, I missed her over the weekend.
To Killer, well done and top effort of volunteering your time to marshall, sorry we missed you on lunch saturday, I was told they had a feed for you and when I learnt that was not the case I felt real stink. I'll buy you a beer at the next meeting, hoping to make up for it :)
Thanks to all for making this weekend yet another super friendly time out bush, I think we all have to give Linda heaps cause she missed out on soo much.
I look forward to the next chin wag. Thanks guys!

Thanks guys for putting the team together and showing everyone how good the Land Rover product can perform. I think you guys did the club proud, you did very well in some stages, and had very good sportsmanship. The winching stage I was on, there was only two teams which did the course without penalties, Rovernutters was one, the other was the team that won the stage, so well done guys.
A huge thanks to Jess and Grimace for your efforts in feeding us all. I may have missed out on a meal or two, but what I did have was sensational, don't feel bad about me not getting lunch on the Saturday, I wasn;t expecting you to bring it to me (or even know where I was), it would have been nice for the organisers to have looked after us a little better though.
In all I had a great weekend, with some great company, but I am totally exhausted now. Will I do it again next year? Maybe. It would be great if we could get more of us to volunteer as Marshalls next year, but it is a lot of effort and all you get is a thank you and a t-shirt (and a warm fuzzy feeling that you helped make the event happen).
Cheers, Mick.

Well done to all involved in this event. Sounds like the GCLRO can be very proud of how you guys and girl preformed. :TakeABow:
Harry had story after story
He has had a good weekend if he has not runs out of stories by lunch.
You all must have had a GREAT weekend because the stories were still coming thick and fast all day.
It must have been hard work because he was nearly asleep by 2:30 knocking off work at 3 to go home to sleep.
Hopeful we can get a second team for next year.
Maybe we could get a Discovery Team and a Range Rover Team, we could then hear the end of the Range Rover’s are better than Discos argument when the Disco’s beat the Range’s

Well I have had a word with a few of the marshalls behind the scenes and I can safetly say you guys should be pleased with the comments.
The opinion is Rovernutters were one of the most organised teams for this years event. You also would have rivalled first place getters in the 3 recoveries stage (Tom was marshall there, he said you provided many laughs).
Now all this talk of two teams next year Discos V Range Rovers..... I think it's a great idea.
I think we also noted that this trip was the first that had the Rangie owners equalling or out numbering the disco owners... i think! :D

Once again, not much i can say that has not already been said. Thanks to Harry for doing a fantastic job of manager all weekend, stand out performance, Justin and Greg for leading the way, Bolts for riding shotgun in the Disco, and Trav and Camo for doing a fine job in the Dunga. Was a great (but tiring) weekend which i enjoyed thoroughly.......great experience.
Grimace and Jess.....you two are stars ;) we would not have done it without you  Spectators.......thanks for taking the time to come down and cheer us on, was great to have some familiar faces to put us at ease while tackling some pretty awesome obstacles.
All in all I am proud of the Team, Proud of the Club, and Proud of the capability of the brand of car we all love to drive. We conducted ourselves exactly how intended, had fun, and drove home :)
Hopeful we can get a second team for next year.
Maybe we could get a Discovery Team and a Range Rover Team, we could then hear the end of the Range Rover’s are better than Discos argument when the Disco’s beat the Range’s
Although I am getting confident that the disco will follow the Rangie to the end of the earth and back  be careful when challenging a Rangie as we should all know it is more down to Driver ability then that of the car. Watching Justin and Greg perform as a team was inspiring and it would take one hell of a car (of any brand and level of modification) to give them a run for their money  I am just happy that i managed to stay close enough to watch, learn and follow :D

As Stikman said you have to go along way to beat a combo of driver and machine. This year worked so well as each had teams that understood the machines they were in with Justin/Greg both know rangies as does Trav/Camo and stikman/bolts in the disco. It comes down to those type combination's and I for one think that's how we need to keep them for next event.
As to taking on the rangie / disco fight mmmmmm i would be sitting in middle having being a disco man for many years but now find myself looking at a rangie for my next vehicle:o,

From what Julie said they are producing a DVD so the chances of getting hold of the raw footage is very slim. I suggest maybe Harry sending Julie an email asking for the contact details of the people producing it? and any other contacts of people that may have footage.
