The Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce says the withdrawal of Fraser Island ferry services to Hervey Bay will have a devastating impact on local businesses.

Kingfisher Bay Resort says it will end services to Hervey Bay on November 1 because of commercial reasons.

It will increase services to River Heads, south of Hervey Bay, from four to seven return trips daily.

The president of the chamber of commerce, David Rees, says the move could halve business in the area.

"It's a very sad day for the people who derive their livelihoods for being the part of the marina complex at the Kingfisher terminal," he said.

"Without doubt, their ability to earn income depends entirely on the number of pairs of feet that walk past their businesses and that's going to change drastically to the negative."

I wouldn't think so. Anyone who was going to go from Hervey Bay will just go from River Heads. It would only be about 15kms south of the Harvey Bay marina. I'm guessing it is much cheaper for Kingfisher at River Heads.
