The Government has released its draft Queensland Coastal Plan which recognises the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change's forecast sea level rises of 0.8 of a metre.
Queensland Climate Change Minister Kate Jones says the plan would ensure buildings in low-lying zones could withstand sea level rises and flooding.

I think we will see much more of this. It is happening in Adelaide and has for a while now.
I know of a building that was deemed to be within the "flood" area (close to the sea) and the ground level for the building had to be built up or the building put on supports. Cheapest was to put it on supports to get the required height.
Fir those of you who know Adelaide, this was near the Port River.

But here we already have to build 3.60 m above the high tide mark!
The bad part is that they allowed to develop and selling land in areas where never should be built.
I just wonder what will happen in places like Kawana Waters

Oh it says climate CHANGE not global warming. Oceans might freeze and levels get lower ! Didn't plan for THAT did they ?! Sigh.

And we have stupid developers trying to put in a 'mainland style' canal development on tidal mud flats south of Hobart.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

A mate of mine has a block near Seaspray in Victoria.
Due to "Climate Change" he had to change the plans for his retirement house to allow for rising sea levels.
Now, due to the new Bushfire plans he has to redo it all over again!

Some times I wonder if the future is to have a large caravan to put in the land in the coastal area!

Where abouts austastar. My mum lives out at South Arm (and I eventually hope to myself when I've given up the mining game) and she's worried about the road out to there going under if they keep up the sand mining on the ocean side. As it is, the water laps up on the road through Lauderdale and across the spit at high tide now, especially if there's a breeze up. And there's been some muppets talking about putting in a canal development somewhere between Lauderdale and the airport for a few years now.

The intelligence of some people never ceases to astound me.

I've gotta admit that one is freaking stupid. I mean who really is doing to pay all that money to live there anyway!!!
