I have a rangie rear end here, and what i am wanting to do is cut the bottom section out fo the axle and the bottom half of the diff pumpkin out, have a peice of round tube welded in it's place and weld plate over the top half of the pumpkin so it is enclosed, so it will basically look like a rear diff but instead of having the pumkin part in the bottom just be curved like the rest of it.

Then i plan on using the a-frame and trailing arms and coil springs under my off road camper trailer project. The big question is am i able to use the diff housing as a trailer axle legally in QLD.

yep, legal.

you can even leave the diff in so long as you shield the flange.

ok sweet that is good to hear, one more question i have is regarding the I.D plate it has a section on it where it needs the axle load rating on it and it says "this will be stamped to the axle by the manufacturer" Can i just take a guess and put down like 1500kg or something and then even stamp it into the housing?
