ScanGauge causing trouble codes???

Well the other day I heard a "clackety clack" noise from my 110 Puma and the engine rolled back to 1500rpm. The noise went away however the engine would not rev any higher (I was trying to get out of traffic so I could pull over) The "check engine" light came on so I shut down and looked at my scangauge to find the code. P1169 came up which is the "water in the fuel" code however I have been playing in any water and it hasn't rained up here in Broome for many months.

I restarted the engine, as I was on my way to work which was only 2km away, and it seemed to be ok. I rang up my local dealer (nissan/ford/landrover) an they couldnt get me in for 5 days.
I drove home with the intention of leaving the car at home for the next 5 days but the engine light went away. Then over the next few days it came back on with a P2135 and the TC light, then went off again.

SO I finally took it tot the dealer and they apparently couldn't find any faults with it, and because the couldn't fault it they cant claim the cost of the work back from Landrover under warranty, so they charged me for labour. And they say that the scangauge is non genuine and therefore it caused the problem.

According to them NO vehicle should EVER have one of these things attached to it all the time. Of course I pointed out that the scangauge has been plugged in for the last 10,000kms with no problems but they wern't listening.

So the questions to the Brains Trust are...
* Can leaving the Scangauge plugged in cause problems? (I mainly use it as a gauge, as a fuel computer and a battery voltage monitor)
* Am I right to say that the car went in for a noise which is warranty and I'm not paying?

Hi Craig, I've had my Scangauge plugged in for over 40,000ks. Every time my car has been in for a service or warranty work I've left my Scangauge plugged in and sitting on the steering column and Barbragellos have not said a word about it. Mind you LR are getting mighty picky with their warranty lately.

As for the error codes it sounds like you could have had a bit of bad fuel?? However P2135 relates to the throttle pedal sensor.

If they state that a device plugged into the OBDII port is causing the problem, as Scangauge is OBDII compliant the LR must not be? Hence the LR is at fault? Also where in the owners manual is it stated that the use of OBDII diagnositic tools on the D3 is prohibited?

FWIW the Scan gauge has been in my D3 without problems for 8,000k, and another in my fathers for >20,000k.

Reviving an old post, just wondering where the ODBII connector is on a PUMA.

Is the std cable that comes with it long enough (they seem to have the option of an additional cable....)?

Am thinking of getting a ScanGaugeII for my 110.

Just want to say we had a scanguage on our Puma......

it has been on for a long time.......garage never had a problem with it however did ask once about it when we had our engine rattles but quickly pointed out that the rattle was there months before that got plugged in. (so was most definitely not the cause)

When the car recently went in and had the engine change....after fitting downloading the patch to the ecu they reckoned that the scanguage was interfering in the running of the engine and the engine was actually running a tad rough until they disconnected it.

So they asked us not to keep it connected all the time...I think the theory was that even though the unit is small, the unit is drawing power off the ecu which could be causing a conflict.

Are they just politely saying you shouldn't have that fitted now after having it on for well over a year? I don't know but we have disconnected it just because they have asked and suggested its causing minor problems.

I personally dont see why it would be...but have gone with there wishes.
