Does anyone knnow who would stock a replacement tube for a Versa Lite ( or Piranha ) 12V camping light ?
I could go to Piranha but looking for something more local.
It is an "Osram Dulux 8 11W/21-840"

I'd be having a look in Bunnings (as a starting point). They seemed to have a good range of fluro tubes etc last time I was in the local one.

The only 12v tubes I've found at Bunnings are the Nelson brand with ES or BC fittings (as mentioned in other threads on here for self made camping lights).
If you end up heading for piranha Wayne, try this place (http://www.yellowpages.com.au/bi/lamp-replacements-bayswater-vic-3289868.html) just around the corner from Piranha ... if only just to check the price. They've had stock of some obscure globes and tubes I've needed in the past.
Also, myself or one of the other members around here might be able to call in for you if you haven't got it sorted before the next time we meet.

Well watdy'a know ... had to go to Bunnings today for something, took a look in their lighting section on the off chance - and they DO have one that fits.
Phillips 11W/827.
It's a "warm white" rather than the "cool white" of the original one, but the light output seems as good.
$8.95 - I'm a happy camper :D

I've been using one of those new fangled 11W 240V non-incandescent globes (warm white 2700 degK) with a 150 W inverter... cheap and cheerful and excellent light with min. battery drain compared to a 60W 12V incandescent... just gotta remember it IS 240V and take appropriate safety precautions...

Bunnings Fountain Gate is my local. Had to look a bit for them. Only two in stock - obviously not a hot seller.
I'm going to get another one for my ARB Adventure light, ( Versa Lite copy ) which ( hopefully ) uses the same tube.

Looking at the package that my Versa_lite came in, it says that it is *important* to only replace with Osram Dulux-S11W or GE BIAX F11/BX. Of course they don't explain why it is important. :-(

Yeah, I do not know why it is but I was sold an equivalent in another brand and it buggered my Versalite.

I suspect that it is something to do with the Versa-Lite inbuilt inverter. Perhaps it is something to do with electrical "noise".
Thanks for the feedback,
Peter

hmmm .. OK .. well I'm willling to risk it ( take one for the forum so to speak ;):D). I've had it running for an hour or more on the Philips tube and seems Ok so far.
The next camping trip will be the big test.
Maybe the one you were sold was a higher wattage that exceeded the limit of the inverter ?

No the wattage was 11. AFAIR it was a Sylvania.
It would start if you held your hand over the tube but not otherwise.Strange.

Ok FYI I bought another one of the Bunnings Phillips tubes and fitted it to my backup ARB Adventure light ( the tube in that was dying too )
Seem to work fine. Still to do a proper trial of this tube in both the Versa Lite/Piranha ( they are the same ) and the ARB Adventure light.
Still not sure about the "warm white" colour temp of the replacements but Bunnings don't stock cool white.

Well I can report these tubes performed well on a camping trip a couple of weeks ago. 5 - 6 hours operation each day no problems. Light output is as good as the orginal tubes - bit yellow but not a problem.

you should be able to get the correct tubes from L&H as they sell (sold) a Lanson versalite (L&H's own brand) it is identicle, i'd go for a 850 (5000k) 0r 860 (6000k) colour (daylight), 840 (4000k)is the old cool white, 827 (2700k) is warm white. I'd also go for Phillips or Sylvania brand as they make the best tubes.
If you get a part number then ring the other electrical wholesalers as L&H are quite expensive
