We seem to have aquired several bee hives in our cavity brick bedroom wall:(..not nice waking up to bees flying around the bedroom:eek:
As getting to the queen bee proves difficult..apart from tearing down the wall.. or we could smoke them out :o but I do like my house..can anyone give us suggestions of how to move these bees on

Hi. just so happens I am a pest controller, trouble is I'm in Canberra.
You will not be able to get them out, neither will they leave if established. You will need to call on the services of a pest controller. My only advise is to shop around. Forget Rentokil, or Flick, they are way expensive, choose a small concern, you will get better service. If you were in my area I would do it for you to "test" my equipment :D PM me if you need any other help.

When it was available to us we have used
C02 fire extinguisher or liquid nitrogen on the hive. Theory was that the queen cannot breed if she cannot breathe

We know a bloke in Cooroy who is one of the biggest beekeepers in Oz (he uses a Western Star, a 40 ft trailer, and a dog trailer to transport his hives. I wonder if he could help? :p

There is a chemical used by bee keepers to keep bees from re establishing in boxes that have been emptied and stored. I can't tell you what it's called, but a bee keeper or apiarists supplier should be able to help you.
He won't be able to get the queen without pulling the wall apart, so your only real option is to kill them or drive them away.
20 years ago I used the old Mortein pest strips to get bees out of a chimney, they worked well, but I believe they haven't been made for years. I would try to seal the wall in the bedroom and than drill a hole too small for bees and just pump flyspray into the hive every day for a week or so.

Perhaps you could spray into their entrance with a cockroach bomb and spray expanding polyurethane foam into gaps to seal them.
Worked at my Auntie's when she had them in a chimney.

We have had several bee keepers use our block for bee hives...there is still one here...because we have ironbark trees here..I don't have their phone numbers any more:(

Moving bees the "hard way" looks to be the least destructive but labour intensive.
We had to do this once.

Hmmm, how dissappointing, I thought this was going to be a thread about hair styles from the 60's:(
:D
Sorry, I have nothing useful to offer other than my wife says that if the bees have been established once, then it may hapen again later even if they are completely removed this time:( as they leave scent markers etc behind apparently that can bring others there to swarm...

If uou can get in in there: Petrol.
Then drop some of the toilet freshener blocks in the walls. The bees can't stand the smell and won't come back as it masks the previous scent that attracts the next lot.

If you don't have any other option to not move them unharmed.
Try this as I did with a Wasp nest in a wall.
Wait until evening when they are in the nest ( safest time) and get an old sauce squeeze bottle filled with ant and Wasp Powder. Insert the sauce bottle top into the wall cavity and squeeze the contents out with a puffing action. This will coat the entire cavity with a mist of powder. Then leave the nest undisturbed. The traveling bees will pick up this powder and contaminate the nest killing all their mates Without any survivors to look after thethe Babies and the fat Queen will Die also. The powder is avail at bunnings etc

well, back to the matter in hand.... Please trust me, and no need to learn the hard way. YOU CANNOT REMOVE BEES FROM CAVITIES, without killing them. I have tried a few times, and cried for weeks. The daleks know the answer....exterminate, exterminate. Experts do it best, don't muck around.

The classical solution would be to send in a mongoose.
YouTube - Mongoose Attacking an Asian Cobra (Britannica.com)
Failing that, I've recent success with a huntsman.
Well, the boy put a wasp in the bugcatcher, and my wife added a huntsman, and the huntsman won.
For an entire hive you might require a team of huntsmen working in concert.
The other advantage of the huntsmen solution is their ability to enter through very small openings, the throat of the bugcatcher is less than 2cm across and the large huntsman has no trouble.
I'll leave you to acquire the orchestra of huntsmen.
So now you have a wall full of spiders.
I've heard that small snakes will deal with spiders, it will only take a few to get rid of the huntsmen.
A king cobra is rather territorial and will probably be willing to deal with the lesser snakes.
And now you need a mongoose.

Common sense would dictate that if an "EXIT ONLY" sign was placed above each entry the queen would not survive, causing abandonment of the hive. However, my offer of assistance went unacknowledged.:(
The wire cone idea works--I have done it. You can buy a comercial "BEE ESCAPE" which will let bees out but not back into the hive, if siliconed over entrance. But they may find other ways back in. The wire cone is cheap, if you have old fly wire hanging around [say after putting new wire onto screen door], so the comercial bee escape may not be the way to go.
Place a colony of cane toads in front of hive in a wire mesh cage that bees will have to fly through would get rid of the bees over several weeks. Have not tried that one but it should work. Too many bee keepers lose bees to cane toads sitting in front of their hive boxes.
Petrol fumes work well at killing bees, but if your house burns down expect a call from the Police Arson Squad, with a list of unsolved arsons they want someone for. Explaining their must have been an elecrical short in the house wiring will not help once the police/Fire investigators detect there was petrol fumes. And make sure you tell them I did not tell you to actually use the petrol to burn down your house, if that happens.
I use to keep bees and often had people wanting them removed from walls. I would tell them to empty a can of mortein into the cavity at night, when the bees were inside. Never got feed back to see if it worked, or not. Perhaps they were all in hospital being treated for severe bee stings but I doubt it as I emptied mortien into cavity for some people and never got stung. Stuff all breather holes in the wall with fly wire that you used for the cones--allows wall to breathe-- to keep further infestations out, making sure there is no way for them to get past the fly wire. If building put flywire over cavity entrances.

is that the little guy, see him at the airport in summer as we fly millions of bees to the usa evey year, plays hell wityh teh smoke detectors on the aircraft as they produce a huge amount of heat, they are now putting blocks of dry ice on the top to try keep things cool untill the aircraft can cope at 30,000 feet.
