my girlfriend is wanting a range rover, not sure of the budget but she justs wants a reliable rangie:oto commute around brizzy

anyway i'm sure i seen a thread that laid out the years for each model and what engine were fitted

can somebody point me in the right direction.....

when were the first factory diesel fitted

are p38's really that bad

Reliability has never been Land Rover's strongest point, as I'm sure you know. Forewarned is forearmed so they say...
In all honestly, if she only wants an around-town commuter I'd suggest a Freelander :eek: over any other Landie. If what she really wants is something to intimidate other drivers and drive over gutters 'coz she can, then she might as well do it in some style... go the Rangie :D

Don't think Diesel RR's were available in Oz until the L322 in 2003. UK had diesel RRC in late 80's I think, and all P38A years (1995-2002).

As what?:eek: I love my P38A and wouldn't go back to an RRC as my daily driver. RRC's are great cars for sure, but they don't compare to P38A's for comfort and function. Sure, the P38A has a lot more electronics than an RRC, and L322 has even more again. That's progress... like comparing a 60 Series LandCruiser to a 100 Series, and then the 200 Series.
Would I have a RR Sport as my daily driver? You betcha, as long as it was still under warranty.

Hi Weeds,

As P38a pointed out reliable and Range Rover can be two distinct points far apart.

The trick is finding a RRC or Range Rover that has had its maintenance kept up or was owned by someone on this Forum who knows the value of keeping up the servicing.

Remember that they are ALL getting old now whichever way you look at them ....value for money .....absolutely and what they can do off road even in standard form....no question the're brilliant.

From all accounts keep well away from any classic diesels (if there any in Oz) most in the know on this Forum don't like them, parts are scarce and a whole lot of trouble. Later BMW diesels are excellent from all accounts.

Hope your girlfriend find what she's looking for ......keep us posted and don't forget the pic's if you purchase something :D

Oz got the 4 cylinder manual only VM powered diesel RRC in I think 1986. It was a very basic no frills model - called a County I think - and there was never very many of them. That Italian diesel in them has a terrible reputation - it has individual heads for each pot too from memory. Stay well clear if you encounter one Weeds.

1988 we got the boat anchor powered rangie.
