Gday

I run 235/85R16 BF Goodrich M/Ts on my Defender (about 60% tread); which I am under the impression roughly add up to be 31s

Now I have a mate who has a set of 33x12.5R15 Goodyear Wranglers (roughly 70% tread). He's about to fit them onto his Gutlux. I thought I might compare then with the tyres I'm running. Sitting next to each other on the cement they were very close in diameter  There was definitely not 2 inches in diameter difference between them

So are the people running 15 inch rims getting ripped? Or whats the story?

My next set of tyres will now be 285/75s or 255/85s which work out to be 33s

Thanks

Hi Jock,

Is your mate trying to double the value of his lowlux??? :)

The difference between manufacturers claims are amazing! The 255/85/16 are actually slightly bigger than 33", whereas the 285/75/16 is a little under.
There are diffences in diameter between the same tyre size from different manufacturers:o
I would go the 255's, quite wide enough and taller anyway:)

Another mate had Mickey Thompson 32x11.5R15s that were smaller than a 7.50R16 which I thought were about a 32

I was looking a second hand tyres, but I think I'll just save up for the 255's new instead. By that time the new KM2's will be out

Got the lift going in tomorrow :)

according to the MT website, the 35x12.5x15 MTZ's measure in at 884mm which is roughly 34.8 inches......

All tyre sizes are nominal only.

With a straight tape and 32 psi. If you pulled the tape around the side wall to the tread it may come close to 34" but that's not the actual height.
The 285/75 K2s I have here are meant to be 33" but come close to 32" with a tape.

I think you may be forgetting the Rim which is 16":bangin:

7.5+7.5+16=32

Oh, does 7.5 x 2 = 16 now?
I always thought it was 15. ;)

No worries, hope it went well with the test today.
That's probably more important than inches in a tyre!!
