Hi all,
I’m new on the forum and already need help. I had an injector problem with my 2001 freelander TD4 (180000 km on the clock), so I took it to an ex-land rover dealership to send away my injectors to be tested. This is when everything started to go wrong.
Two days after, I had a phone call telling me that my injectors where blocked in the head engine. They told me I needed 4 news one;( First bad news)
The following day another phone call. This time they had broken two injectors in the head engine so they have to remove it.
I decided to go have a look. Oh my god! The engine bay was a mess. They smashed the plastic tape cover. Plastic everywhere in the engine. The situation was to late to go backward. They have to remove the head engine now and send it away to remove the broken injectors (2) all of this because they didn’t have the right extractor tool.
Today a new phone call. The head specialist doesn’t know if he will be able to save the head engine so now I probably need a new one.
From a thousand dollar job, the bill will now be around SEVEN thousand! The garage refuses to take any responsibility even though in the first place they f*.!*ed the job. It has put me now in the situation where I have to pay. I don’t know what to do. Do I have any rights or is it just bad luck?

I think I would be seeking some legal advice sooner rather than later.
Get in touch with the MTA & see what they say - in my experience they stick up for the repairer though.
If you're in the NRMA, try them first.

Either way, it's going to be a hard road.

get legal advice.

my rules say they attemtped the injector removal without the correct tools without telling you they werent equipped for the job and then without informing you as soon as they broke the first one. If they have damaged the head you're entitled to a free one on the workshop.

take the head away from the head specialist and have it sent to a proper fitter and turner along with a normal injector so he knows what hes got to play with.

Ask pm jlk22 in perth about how good a job a decent machinist is at getting injectors out when some mechanic ham fists the top off of an injector leaving half of it in the head.

Pm me if you want some more info on that side.

I looked in rave for the injector removal tool listed by land rover. Land rover dont have a service tool for removal of injectors in the TD4 the tell you to unscrew the injector studs but if they broke the injector removing the studs wouldnt remove them

Hi l'oztof
I googled TD4 injector extractor all I could find is a extractor for removing injector pump. There was UK forums about the same problem it sounds quite common issue with TD4. there was also 1 bloke that had the same scenario as what you had that they had to break rocker cover to remove head.
