HI Guys
Has anyone got heavy duty drive flanges on there disco1.....????
I have the maxi ones on the rear and have some copys on the front.
Ian just took the car for a drive to test the brakes to make sure there not leaking anymore....
and on his return I can hear a noise which is a slight creaking/catching sort of noise.:( not sure where its coming from but on talking to Ian it doesn't look like he has refitted the circlips on the end of the axles...he did have reasons for this but cant remember now something to do with floating or something.
But i'm pretty sure if I recall correctly when we fitted the maxi's ones on the rear the circlips were put back on.
and I can't help but feel if you take circlips off the axle why wouldn't you refit them...but hey I'm not the mechanic so I can't argue I only go with what seems to make sense to me
can anyone tell me whether the circlips should be on or off? could the catching be the axles catching some how in the diff? if they are in just a fraction to far.
can someone shed some light?

You should have circlips and on the front a shim as well to get the correct CV position. Pat

he put the criclips back on and one shim each side he said he couldn't seem to fit the thinnest shim back on didn't appear to be enough room......
but the creek however is still there.....its not as bad now I have driven the car around the block. and it seems to be activated by me pushing the brakes even though they work great...
it really really sounds like a suspension creak to me you know like creaky springs....the car has been up on jacks for over a week waiting for the brake lines etc do you think it could be the suspension needing to settle down after been up on jacks for that long???

Check those wheel nuts Lou!!!!
Had the same noise last week in another D1, he had some tyres fitted and 2 days later a creaking noise, all the alloy wheel nuts on the RH side were loose:o

Doing wheel nuts up by rattle guns is forbidden at work.
I've lost count of the number of loose wheels I've heard about in the trade after rattle guns were involved.
I have a nice collection of damaged alloy wheels to prove it too.

Too late! I saw it!
Anyway, I do use my (very expensive Wurth 450Nm rattle gun), but they get checked after too by hand.
Air tools are a very important part of life, but don't depend on them 100%

so no one has any ideas in regards to the creaking?
we have established that its not the circlips missing that was creating it

Does it sound like a suspension type creak? You know, like a rubber bush creak?
If so, give them a bit of a spray with some lubricant (like WD40) & see if it stops.
Or is it a steering noise? Sometimes the PAS can groan at low speeds but you would have heard that before I'm sure.

Check the bolts holding the brake caliper to the hub are tight.
And do check the wheel nuts aswell.
I too have a similar creek but can't nail it.

its definitely a new noise......its not a groan its a creak and yes to me it sounds like a suspension creak thats why I was wondering if having it up on jacks for a week could do this and that the suspension just needs to settle.
It was coming on when applying the brakes but would stay after the brakes would release......I was wondering whether brakes going on was putting a load on the springs and making them creak as it sounds like its coming from the front....
the front wheel bearings were also done so I have asked Ian to jack up the car and give the wheels a spin just to make sure they are moving freely and he hasn't accidentally over tightened the bearings (i doubt it but can't hirt to check)
dont forget I have poly bushes scott.....the only rubber bushes on the front now are the ones on the shocks..you reckon I should spray them with WD?
