How does one (living in....say Townsville), get a vehicle (at a dealer), checked out, when the vehicle and dealer are in Melbourne?

Ok here is the goss....
Son has found via the web a Range Rover and is interested in purchasing. Tis a bit of an ask to go down to Melbourne to check out the vehicle if only to find it is a lemon etc.

He also found one in Adelaide, but old mate has become reluctant to sell.

Does anyone know a reliable way (or person) to check out the vehicle in Melbourne?

Any help apreciated.

Two ways that I can think of -

1. Ask for volunteers from here to assess it - you have to trust their expertise and independence. I am not in Melbourne (and don't claim expertise in RRs), but I have done that sort of thing occasionally.

2. Arrange for it to be inspected on a commercial basis by one of the Melbourne outfits - some of the Melbourne residents would be able to make recommendations.

If you are a member of the RACQ you can get it done through the other state's equivalent.

That's what I did from here for both the Defender and Discovery with NRMA. Pay the fee but you do get a good inspection and you can usually talk to the inspector after he has done the job.

If you want to take a look in SA, I be happy to go by and take a look, take pics and do close inspection for stuff I know.
I am no mechanic but have had 6 RRC and know a lemon from a peach.

So check how far away from where I live via google and if not too far, I will go for a look.

Recd a generous offer from a forum member and I appreciate this. How good is the networking and general good will in the community here? Returned the message to him and thanked him as best I can. SA vehicle is now available:o.

Once again this is good community and thank you.

What kind of guarantee do you get with a vehicle inspection.

I've had one experience where the fella - professional inspector - didn't know what he was talking about.

"What kind of guarantee do you get with a vehicle inspection".

I am not looking for guarantee, the glaringly obvious or signs of (like overheating issues), or even a gut feeling would suffice. Near the ocean, so looking for rust. Do the miriad of gadgets work (I drive a 98 Defender with "Nuffin" so am cautious).
