Replacing door hinge bolts - will nut fall off inside of frame

Did a bit of searching about replacing the rusty torx bolts on my 90's door hinges, and read this from County3.9:



The **** nut fell of the back of the A piller (inside the firewall) while I was adjusting the front doors:angry: Anyone got any tips on how to recover it and to fit it again?


If I do each bolt one at a time, can I swap all of them over without the nuts inside the frame falling out?

Any tricks to this procedure?

The nuts are supposed to be slightly captive - they slide into position IIRC - so they should stay in position.
I think the only way for them to fall inside the pillar would be if the captive 'tang' was rusted out.

OK. It's only 4 years old, so not likely to be rusted out.

I'll do the first one carefully and see what happens then.

I found with the 110 some fall out some dont. The pillar ones stay put, but the door ones seem to fall out but usually come out the slot at the bottom of the door trim. They can be done up without removing the door trim if the do fall but it is fiddly, much easier with the door trims off as well and a good time to fit central locking.
