Dodgy Trailer warning light

I've recently removed my trailer plug to swap to another type, and haven't yet put my original back on, so there's only bare wires (all insulated individually with insulation tape). Currently, whenever I turn on my indicators, both the indicator light and the trailer light flash on the dash. Will this rectify itself once I put the plug back on?

The system is sensing an extra load for some reason. Do you have bullbar mounted indicators?

Merely disconnecting you trailer plug shouldn't cause the symptoms you are describing.

Yep, I've recently added a bullbar with indicators, but I think it was ok at first, and has only started playing up recently.

Hi Ranga my 98 Disco is the same, trailer light flashes with indicators. It does not seem to cause any problems, when towing the trailer all lights work ok. Mine is also fitted with electric brakes and I thought that may be the reason the trailer light came on.

Hi. The electric brakes shouldn't make any difference to the trailer light flashing. My D1 Disco has electric brake controller and when there is no trailer attached, the trailer warning light flashes once as it is supposed to, then just the normal indicator flasher.
Maybe it depends on which brand of electric controller you have. Mine is a basic hayman reese type.

If you dont have lower wattage globes or LED's on the indicators of your bullbar that will be your problem (not that it is one)...you sure you just haven't noticed until now

yes the extra lights in the bullbar will make the trailer light flash.....without a trailer fitted

As noted above, the bullbar lamps will increase the load enough to make the trailer indicator to "flash". I fixed it by fitting relays to power the bullbar lamps.

You can also simply replace the Bull bar globes with 5w globes.... not as bright but you can see the vehicle's original indicator's anyway - so I dont see it as a problem.

Far easier than most other fixes.

I did the same. This way you still maintain glob brightness.

Or use LED globes in the bullbar.
