You find a nice hole and settle in for a quiet crap and the whole world comes banging at your door.
Can't a rat get a moments peace?

I like how the shifty buggers put up a couple of video adds but use a still of the rat to sucker you into playing it.

The thing that scares me is the particularly hairy caterpillars the bbc found,… I can just see the report being filed with “Nothing Suss” stamped on it...

Papua New Guinea has such a wealth of undiscribed species.
I used to get a magazine called Aqua Geo, and I read a story of a scientist on a trip in West Papua(Iran Jaya)who was discovering something like ten new bird species, ten fish species and dozens of new plant species every day for two weeks. To me it seems such a shame we're raping the hell out of it with our mines, and Indonesia is doing worse to the other half.
So many medical and other benefits to be found, but I guess gold is more important, than human rights or the environment.
I'm sure I saw a rat in a back lane in Kings Cross as big as that though.

I worked in that area in 1970, but did not see the rats - I was never in the crater though. I am not surprised it did not worry about humans - the locals are frightened of the crater (possibly with good reason - to call it "extinct" is probably premature at best - think Mt Lamington!) and never go there. No doubt if they did visit the crater and knew of the rats they would be extinct - I can't see them regarding the rats as anything other than edible; historically they had no problem with regarding their neighbours as food.
I was aware at the time that the mountain represented an "island" with many unique species - at one stage there was an army unit there whose CO had deliberately selected the area for an exercise so that he could indulge his hobby of describing new species of birds.

When have you done a tunnel tour of Sydney?
You are right though. The average Central station tunnel rat is much bigger.
