Thinking of moving to Cairns or surrounds

After my last week of call, and 16+ hour days, I'm thinking of giving this medicine game the flick. Currently live in Melbourne, but want to have a change of lifestyle. Fell in love with Cairns 23 years ago, and still was not dissapointed when we went through on the way to Cape York a few years back. I am also a carpenter, so would be happy doing that part time.
What areas to look for to buy a house?? Want something nice, and with some re-sale if we find we can't hack the heat/humidity. The missus wants something new, or at least something that does not need any work. A pool is a must, and a view would be preferable. She also wants to be able to walk to a coffee shop for a morning latte. Have looked at Edge Hill on the net, looks like something we would be happy with. Any of the Beach side suburbs worth a look? What schools are good for an 8 year old boy? Is there anyplace that has stinger nets in place, so a swim is possible?? I personally would like about 50 acres out from town, but I have to keep the missus happy, or we will all be miserable if you know what I mean. It's also cheaper to keep her.:wasntme:

Edge Hill is a fairly nice area, other areas to consider would be the freshwater and stratford areas (neighbouring suburbs) probably not quite as close for a morning latte but does give the advantage of being in the correct zone for Freshwater State School, although i haven't heard anything bad about Edge Hill State School either. Also all those areas give reasonable (10 min drive) access to the majority of private schools if you prefer.
If you don't mind living a little outside of town on the southside is Gordonvale (once again not too bad a primary school). It offers the mulgrave river for a swimming but still not so easy on the Latte. Most of the beaches put out stinger nets during stinger season and my personal pick of the beaches would be Trinity or Yorkeys Knob

I had some time to waste at work today, and had an other look around. What is Trinity Park like on the canal? I noticed no sail boats moored to any of the docks. Too shallow? or Bridges to get under? Any other areas that have houses backing up to canals?

Bayview Hts is worth a look, Edge Hill is over rated and priced, in my opinion. I believe all the Northern Beaches are netted.
