hi all,

getting closer to getting my 86 back on the road and at the fiddly stage.

My dynamo seems to have an extra terminal. The marked D & F posts result in a low 6-7 volt reading on the multi meter and dash light on.

There is an extra un-marked post on the RHS (see pic) which records 16-17v. Is this off a similar vintage vehicle but not LR S1? Should I just connect to the higher voltage post and leave the regulator to charge battery appropriately?

Cheers

I can find no reference to any Lucas dynamo with more than two terminals, but it looks to me that I would move the D lead to the other terminal and see how it goes. It should have a model number stamped on the body somewhere. I think the Series 1 had a C39, although I can't confirm that. Series 2/2a I believe had a C40. Either would work on the S1.

thanks John,

Will give this a go over the weekend. Lots of layers of paint I think on it so may be a bit hard to pick up markings but will look for these too.

Cheers

Series I (petrol) C39
Series II (petrol) C39
Series IIa C40

Both versions will suit all three vehicles. You may need to change the wiring terminals though.

Aaron.
