What is this engine

Can someone tell me what series 1 this engine is out of.

Note the questions to the seller. I am confused as none of the numbers the seller has provided seem to gel.

So - from the pics can anyone tell me if it is a 1.6, a 2.0 Siamese or the later 2.0

Not absolutely certain, but I think it is a later 2.0 - from the oil filter - I don't think the siamese bore had that and the 1.6 certainly didn't.

Casting numbers stated, not engine number, but 99.9% certain it is a 2L spreadbore.

That is what I thought as well - I have both a siamese engine (bits missing from it) and a spreadbore engine and it looks like a spread bore. Was worried it might be a 1600.

Looks same as my 55 2L spread bore

James Taylor says spread bore is identified by

disposable element oil filter on right side of block with metal canister
exhaust manifold pipes more widely spaced
sump has curved profile with pronounced step at rear
fan is riveted together, not welded
From the photos, this one ticks at least 3 of the boxes - hard to tell about the manifold.

The 2 55 in the last pic is the date marking from the top RH rear of the engine block. That nails it as a 1955 engine and the oil filter as a spread bore 2.0 engine. You can also make out to the raised area on the RHS, of the water jacket that all 2.0 engines have from just below the 2 55 date marking and it comes back in just before the bottom of the engine block widens for the crank shaft. A 1.6 doesn't have this feature at all and is just flat from the top of the engine blcok. If you are ever in doubt
