Hi all,
Just wondering - are tailshaft splines a matched pair or can you make "one out of two" by selcting two "least worn" halves? (then yes getting them balanced ). Mine has the plastic coating worn on the male splines from when the previous owner (or lack of service quality by Land-Rover) let it seize, but the female side seems ok. Is the female side supposed to have a coating or is it bare steel?
Dave
PS I have been wondering how many exploded Hookes Joints have been the result of lack of spline lubrication? It seemed to me the alan keyed grub screw had never been removed to put in a grease nipple and grease the splines, they were that seized.
