View Full Version : Where to buy a D1 V8 Radiator

As the title suggests, I am after a replacement radiator for my 97 D1 V8. Doesn't matter particularly where it is as I will need to get it freighted to me anyway (I am located in the Kimberley). Does anyone know where I can get one for a good price? Are the aluminium replacements better than the originals? Also should I be looking at replacing the water pump at the same time as a precautionary measure? Everything is still original and I haven't noticed any problems with the water pump. Any information is very welcome.
Cheers

Give Triumph rover spares a call (08 8326 6885).
They are in SA and carry biggest range in the Southern hemisphere.

Might not be exactly relevant to your radiator question, but seeing that you have a disco in Derby, you might be interested to know this- I was up that way last June, and got stuck with furiously leaking oil pressure switch. I was directed to a business in Kununurra where the owner gave me a replacement for free off a disco he had in the yard. This bloke used to be the local Land Rover agent, told me he got out of it cos nobody up there drives Landys- anyway he had 2 discos in his yard that he was keen to get rid of, he offered me a complete vehicle for (if I remember correctly) $1000, it was running and even had the factory dicky seat option. I told him the just the dicky seats would fetch $750 down south. He had shelves full of genuine Landy parts too. I couldn't take the car off his hands as I was 6,000km from home, but may be of interest to someone local. Might even have a radiator or be able to sell you one out of a car.
Cheers

Thanks for that Pete. Just wondering if you can remember the name of the business as I will be up here for a while and it's good to know of things like that which are atleast semi local. It's funny what you start to call local when your nearest neighbours are 200-300 km's away! If you can't post the business name here, please feel free to PM me.

You could ship it to Kal and get a four core recore for $740. Pat

thanks Pat, but ATM I am looking at a brand new replacement alloy unit for about mid $400's delivered. SWMBO is not liking my spending habits on the D1 ATM so am trying to keep costs down. I have not had any problems with the original radiator for the last 4 years, including towing up here off road in extreme temps, so I don't think I need any extra cooling power. Any comments on alloy radiators?

Sorry I can't remember the name, have been racking my brain but no luck. Other automotive businesses in Kununurra should be able to tell you who used to be the LR agent- I think it was Repco who pointed me in his direction.
After driving for 9 full days to get up there, I reckoned KN was pretty local to Derby!

It seemed it was advertised wrongly. After many emails and e few phone calls I found that it was a D2 radiator. I currently have JRT in Perth building me a new radiator, I am yet to find out price.

Probably Derby 4x4 & Marine.
Why dont you just ring Adrad here in Perth. They will give you a distributor up that way or just send it back to be recored.
Up your way, brass/copper is a far better way to go. There really isnt any benefit between ally and brass radiators cooling wise, but a brass job is by far a lot stronger.
Most of the ally ones come from China and are relatively low grade material. Ally units are cheaper to produce and have a better profit margin for sellers.

Andrew, getting this one re-cored is not an option as it is the only vehicle we have up here ATM, hence why I was looking at a new one. As to Derby 4x4, I have ordered stuff through them previously and have found that things are a lot cheaper if you can order and freight them yourself. As I mentioned in my last post, JRT are getting a radiator rebuilt for me ATM.
