View Full Version : D2 V8 front shaft into a D1 V8 auto?

Hi all,

I've got the opportunity (if I'm really quick) of getting a rebuilt (greaseable unis, etc) Disco 2 V8 front driveshaft with the double-cardan joint for reasonable coin, and he'll chuck in a new front flange kit for a bit extra. I've heard rumour that these can be fitted to D1 V8s if the transfer case flange is swapped for a matching D2 item, however I haven't seen anything concrete to confirm this.

The reason I'd like to do this is to allow more suspension lift, as the standard UJ front shaft is working at quite an angle and I've spat one of the UJs out already. With the DC joint I can run a higher angle without any dramas and it should run smoother, too.

The question is, has anyone done this? Or knows of it being done? Any pitfalls or drawbacks? Advice gratefully received.

Cheers :)

Yes it is a straight bolt in job with the flange kit into a D1 Lt230 case. I have fitted a few to Defenders with lifts too.
