There is a small dome close to the windscreen on the D3 dashboard. It has wires connected underneath... any idea what this is for? And has anyone manged to route a GPS aerial cable underneath the speaker grill to the foot well?

only about 10mm across? it'll be the sun load sensor for the climate control

As llubnrut said sunload sensor for climate control.

It is possible to route a cable to the peaker housing, some use for a CB speaker.

Does anyone know how to lift the grill/mesh and not trash the sensor nor the grill? I would like to put a GPS antenna underneath. I have tried a few times but feared breaking it.:o

Lift it up with a plastic edge. It nneds a good tug. Same clips as the rest of the dash.:D

Hi CaverD3, Are the lugs in the 4 x corners or central on the edge? And does the sensor dome come up with the grill as an assembly?

The sensor dome stays put. Not sure where the lugs were, get a plastic egg slice and try lifting from the sides.

I used a screw driver and gently coaxed it out. From memory the clips are off centre to the corners. ie the clip on the edge facing you as you sit in the vehicle is towards the sensor.

Good luck routing the cable - I tried for 30 minutes but just couldnt find a way down from there to the foot well (MY08), so ended up going around the windscreen to passenger side and behind glove box - All out of sight though.
