Well few years ago there were a few regulars that were very abusive and also I did not find the critic of the images constructive enough to be able to understand what was expected in avian photography.
For that reasons I stopped posting there and went to NatureScapes.
It is all depends how deep you would like to get into photography and be very careful because avian and wild life photography is addictive.
The reason why I have a Defender is to be able to go places where I cannot go with a normal vehicle to take photos :D that it is how addictive nature photography can be.
DB with birds eventually you will need a Better Beamer (http://www.naturescapes.net/store/product.php?productid=174&cat=87&page=1) so the bird will have details where it is important.
Avian photography is very hard, i think that i have 10 or 12 very good shots out of hundreds :(
Keep with it !

While not specifically Australian, if you're after photo critique one of the best sites I've found is photo.net (http://photo.net/).

I am on it just to keep up to date with the Nikon news.

IMO for the nature photographer there are 2 forums with great talent and experience, Photo Critique and Nature Scapes.
The members knowledge help the participants to bring their photographic skill to a new level.

Hmmm BetterBeamer and then you'll want a 400mm f/4 or better and then a Wembley swing arm head and then... getting good bird shots requires patience and good equipment.

As for Nikonians. I was on there as a free subscriber for 12 months. I couldn't at the time see the worth of subscribing, but it certainly does have a lot of information and tutorials. Definitely worth keeping in mind.

There's also some good Flickr Groups worth looking at from time to time.
