This is my maiden voyage at AULRO posting, but here goes !
Firstly thank you to all D3 Zone posters, the information on this site is really great and helpful - much appreciated.
I'm at 93,000Km on my 2007 D3 and am enjoying every km :D I service routinely and on schedule. In last 4 months I've had (a) the rear door latch issue,(b) a new compressor for air suspension,(c) the brake recall + a second effort to get that right , (all things D3 Zone has covered- very re-assuring), and I have to say Gold Coast dealer has been just great and all on warranty.
I'm planning a Great Central Road (Yulara, West to Laverton) mid November.
Two questions please:-
1) I'm going to ask dealer to give D3 a good look for anything warranty .. any suggestions on special requests ? Is extended warranty worth a look and any specialists to prefer ?
2) Any good tips/advice on the GC Road ? Is it relatively straightforward for an amateur ?

Hi
Cant help with the D3 but with the GCR a few tips
I have only done the section from Warburton to Yulara after a gunbarrel highway trip
What I noticed was that there was large sharp washouts on the left hand side of the road (going east to west) they were from the edge of the road to nearly the middle, they were maybe 200-300mm deep and 400-500mm wide, like a small ditch.
Apart from that there was plenty of caravans heading through.
also camels, camels and some more camels
Have a great trip
cheers

There are two extended warranties on offer. Allianz and NWC. NWC was discussed here a while ago and the policy looked poor. The one offered to me was 95% as good as the Allianz one and very different from the one discussed here.
For the money ($2500 for 3 years) you would be silly not to. Yes it is a gamble, but I dread to think what a gearbox failure would cost on a D3. Safe insurance.
I will be buying one in the next 2 days...
Cheers, Steve

Did a lot of night driving, funny, on my way to Perth, from Barrossa Valley to Perth I seen a total of 3 rabbits and 2 small greys. Was hitting the road at 1 to 1.30am each day. It rained basicly the whole way and I wonder if that had any thing to do with it. From Perth to Wiluna seen a few roo and goats. Wiluna to Warburton via the gunbarrel highway was where I seen most animals, mostly breaking camp at daylight but travelling slow seen camels, dingos and brumbies and lots of roo in the early bits before Cargnigie. From warbuton to Ularu lots of camels, daytime driving but no crazy emus or roo. From ularu to Dalhouse springs only the odd roo, daytime driving. Most animals I seen were in the early mornings and most wernt to flighty and seemed quite content to stay outa my way. It was the safest trip I have had in reguards to animals, no strikes at all, unlike my trip 12 months before. My trips to the big island average about 10000km. I now worry more about other road users than animals
cheers

Is your D3 a Euro III or IV engine?
If a III then you will need to get the vac pipe done again when recall issued; if IV then you should have had the HP fuel pump done as well, ask the dealer if you are in the VIN range.
Also check with dealer as to who they deal with for extended warranty. Check the PDS as some are very suss.
I have Alianz and can't fault them, dealer also agrees.

Thanks very much Steve, I'll check this out. Did you do via your dealer ? Did you make your purchase successfully yet ? Regards, Dave.

I did get the warranty sorted, Australs offer the NWS policy and Southern Cross Auto in Toowoomba offer Allianz.
I chose Allianz for vague reasons. They offer an insurance policy, I'm not sure what NWS is, but it is not insurance they say. Allianz also cover a rental car while the vehicle in in for repair.
Policies looked to cover similar things, but a bad experience with NWS put me off. A policy I had on a used car once was totally worthless due to the restrictions it put on things and the minimal amount they would pay for anything. None of these applied in the policy being offered by Australs, but once bitten and all that.
NWS allow you to have a 4 year policy, which may be useful, Allianz was only 3 years.

Thanks alot CaverD3. I have a TDV6 and suspect III . I'm off to Dealer this week for a vacuum pump replacement following the various brake recall activity, so I'll ask them a bit more too. I'm also scheduled to talk about the Warranty, and your plus Steve's comments seem to veer towards Allianz.
