had a gander at a TD5 single cab,

it had the same arb bar as i have but it was mounted further forward and a bit higher. after a bit of a gander it looked like there was an extra bit bolted on the rails using the same boults ad the bar, then the bar was mounted on to these, again using the same configuration of boults.

I rang ARB as these extra bits look all kosher but didn't get far

any one any ideas??

Are you sure it was the ARB bar or was it the almost identical one that was fitted to TD5s and apparently made by someone else.

See thread here for pictures of each.

The reason for the extension was the Td5 has an extended grille like the county. The Tdi-type ARB/LR bar will not fit a county or TD5 without minor mods.

Maybe try Land Rover for a part number for the extension pieces???

Yeah I agree...I was sold a new TD5 extreme in 2003 with a LR bullbar that looked like an ARB one but stuck way out in front. I couldn't understand why LR bragged of such a good approach angle for the vehicle then mounted a bullbar so far out front. It took me almost 18 months before I saw another TD5 with a "normal looking" mount. When I then fronted the 'Stealers' they admitted that it was an old model bar with an adapter mounting which made it stick so far out, and I was apparently stuck with it. I was pretty ****ed off with the stealers for fitting old stock onto my new vehicle but all turned out well when some idiot teen totalled his commodore in a front on collision with it. I then got a current model bullbar fitted as part of the crash repair.
The attached photo shows how far the old bar was from the front of the vehicle (and the photo isn't even fully side on!!)

Cheers
Mark
