View Full Version : My Dad...RIP
numpty
16th September 2009, 01:26 PM
Received the news a couple of hours ago that my Dad passed away. Peacefully at least. He was in Tasmania in a nursing home suffering from dementia, so was a blessing in many ways. Disappointing thing is I'm at work on Hamo and my brother is overseas until tomorrow, so it fell to my nephew to be with him when he went, which is a big thing for a 24 year old.
89 years young and a bloody good mate and mentor. So long old fella.

My condolences, but from what you say, in the circumstances it may have been welcome for him. I have been there - lost my father in 1983 (melanoma) and mother in 1986 (dementia).

Condolences to you and the family Numpty.
I lost my Mum a few years ago, although not Dementia, she had been unwell and suffering a long time. I know what a 'blessing' it can be amongst the grief.
All the best mate. ;)

Thanks to all and sundry for the thoughts and well wishes.
It wasn't unexpected, as the last few years weren't kind to the old bloke. Lost his wife (my Mum) of 63 years in 2006, who we believe kept his brain working. Then in 2007, their only daughter and the oldest of us (of 5) died of cancer and then we put him in a home. Poor bugger, we wonder whether he knew what was going on then.
Cherish the thoughts......we sure do and most were good ones.

Sorry for your loss.
Hopefully you will have plenty of good things to remember about your parents.
I have been lucky enough to have had great parents. My father died from an evil asbestos related disease in 97 but I still think of all the great times we had together.

**** mate, bad news. Sounds like a top bloke. Good on him for living a long life though. Be sure to buy a beer for him on his birthdays and leave it by his gravestone ;) I'm sure he'd have a chuckle at the thought :)

Mate, I'd just like to add my thoughts to the already growing list. My sincere condolences to you, Pat and the family.
My dad died of colon cancer 14 years ago and I still miss him. Shame I was young n silly and didn't take the time to get to know him properly.
Sounds like you had a great relationship with him. For that I'm sure you are grateful.

Sorry to hear it mate. When did you last see him.
Fortunately I made it to Adelaide in June before my Dad got to the stage where he was virtually unconscious.
Keep those memories strong.

Condolences Numpty's, it's only as you get older that you relize how much you father shaped your life and you didn't notice at the time. My dad's very ill at the momement, told me last night in hospital that if he has to go on as he is at the moment, he would rather be out of it.For someone you always thought was as tough as old boot leather to say that makes you think long and hard.
