View Full Version : Guess where this is...

I reckon we have a challenge where you post a pic/pics and then we all have to guess where it is (must include your landy and some clues too) :D . If we run one at a time untill they're guessed, with another clue every two days if it's not solved?
So the place has to have a name that's known or a position that's known, not some odd grid ref in the middle of nowhere  !
And don't upload a file called "Fishing at Albany.jpeg" or we just might guess it!
So where is this?

Dave

PS any praise for my sunset photo and my home made roof rack that survived this adventure also allowed :)

It's in WA. And the rusted metal thing on the ground dates from early to mid '40s...

Nope but it is the Pilbara! It is a place with signifacant australian history in the 1940's, but it wasn't known about when people were there...

No, go to the east side of the ranges...
If I'd published the photo of the long flat "road" in the 1940's I would have been in big trouble...

Corunna Downs airfield?

Apparently it was a secret airfield in WW2 - some info here (http://home.st.net.au/~dunn/ozatwar/corunnadowns.htm)

Something on a nearby hill I couldn't drive up!
Its a round flat area... Overlooking some 1940's concrete foundations...

Yep i reckon he goes next!
Corrunna Downs it is.

That's a bomb crate in front of the car and the thing above on the hill is the bofors gun emplacement

So Thethink - what have you got for us?

Dave

PS nice work mate!

While TheThink is thinking what to post, here is one which should be easy. As the name says - somewhere between brisbane and perth:

Hmmm.

There seems to be a lack of fishing rods so I'm thinking inland...

But that looks to be a big piece of rope in the background as a carpark border... maybe shipping rope.. now I'm stuffed!

That was my first thought too, Willem. Also the van appears to have a WA rego plate, however most pubs in WA carry XXXX signage (the better ones anyway:p), and Emu is not restricted to WA. Not being a frequenter of Public Houses, I'm at a bit of a loss.

Sorry - thought it would have been easier.

It is in WA. It has a somewhat unusual name (would be interested if anyone knows the name origins)

There is a sign at the entrance which says something along the lines of
"welcome to XXXXXXXXX
population:
8 people
6 dogs
4 galahs
12 budgies
and 10000000 kangaroos"

EDIT - Seems like the place started as an aboriginal mission - so the name is probably aboriginal.

HINT - closer to SA than it is to Perth.

You are getting close, I believe some bits of skylab were found within 100-200km of the spot.

To make it really easy, a major east-west highway runs right past... and there are no trees in sight...

You'd never see a rod on my car no matter where it was!

Mrs Ho Har - yes you are correct it is on the Nullarbor. But where?

You'd never see a rod on my car no matter where it was!

Indeed, in fact I had a 9' 1 piece rod in the back!!!
