Might be relocating to Melbourne from Perth for work shortly, considering driving the Range Rover across so l have transport issue is range on the tank its about 350 to 400, l know from previous road trips to Melbourne fuel stations are about every 600 to 700kms.
This means taking a few jerry cans to top the tank on the journey, but dont want to be holding the jerry can in the air to pour it into the funnel into the tank as l will be travelling solo.
Anyone got any recommendations on 12 volt fuel pump device to transfer from the jerry can to the fuel tank or alternative manual crank pump.
Cost of such item, brand name, supplier source etc appreciated as well

the proper filler neck will make easy work of it.
If you dont have the strenght to lift it a 12v faucet pump will work but will take about 15 minutes to transfer each jerry. (based on the 18l/min rate of the cheapest pump)
and EFI pump will work better BUT they are a lot more costly.

If you have a Classic with the low filler (pre 91?), then you can sit the jerry can on the lower tailgate & use a jiggler hose. Works for me :).

A simple syphon will do the job. You can buy a short length of hose with a brass foot valve that you jiggle up and down to get the flow started and then you just hold the jerry can above the height of the filler cap. Simple, reliable, quick, easy, cheap.....
I'l post a photo tomorrow when I'm back home.

From a website I just looked at http://www.kalbarri.com/perth_to_adelaide/travelling_perth_to_adelaide_and_adelaide_to_perth .shtml:
Fuel: - During the 2008/2009 trip the most expensive fuel was at BP Border Village at $1.53 a litre. At the time Perth prices were around $1.00 to $1.09 a litre. As a rule add about 50 cents a litre to capital city prices.
There are a number of petrol stations at all towns between Norseman and Ceduna (except Yalata which is closed), most are predominately BP. The longest distance between fuel stops was a distance of about 200 kilometres.

Check fuel prices, workout fuel economy, calculate how many tanks you will need, go to Westrail and book it onto a train!
Your only on the otherside of Alexander Drive to me. How come I never see you driving around????

Last 2 years been working on site down south on a project so Rangie just sat on drive way except for its weekend drive around to charge the battery.
Can't ship it as they won't allow you to stack stuff inside it for the trip to Melbourne, as l said l might be relocating there for another project contract for 2 year stint. Need to take iMac, Tools clothing kitchenware etc
In the West Coast 4x4 club they usual have good outings couple of D3's and D2 now members there as well, doing a refresher 4wd course this weekend with them.

Here's a picture of the syphon I wrote about above. Nice and simple to use with 20 litre drums or jerry cans.
If you have your jerry cans mounted in your roof rack, provided they're on the side of the vehicle above the fuel filler, you can syphon directly into your tank, with or without a straining funnel. You have to extend the length of the syphon hose to have the length to do this of course.

Bought the Tanami pump for Willow plastic jerry can $89 simple idea dont see why the expense in the product but someone got to live l guess and it solves my problem of pouring fuel into the tank by yourself with no funnel holder around.
All l have to do now is get a job on the Eastern seaboard to do the trip in the Rangie, didn't get the Melbourne one told dipped out to internal applicant being flown to Brisbane on Tuesday next week for a face to face interview for a Brisbane job on Wednesday, wait and see what comes of that.
