JUst after some help with an external hardrive i purchased. Its a samsung usb 2.0 sata 2, 500gb, model HD502HI. I'm running windows XP.
So i've plugged this thing in and the computer recognises something there in 'my computer', it says 'floppy disc drive E', in the safely remove hardware bit it says its a 'USB mass storage device - drive E'. Now when i go to open it or try to send something to it it says 'insert disc' thats about as far as i get. It did come with a mini disc but from what i understand that is for if i only have windows 98, i've (wife) have also misplaced the instruction:angel: booklet that came with it.
So can someone give me a laymens explanation of whats wrong and how i can fix it.

No idea, but the instructions can be had here (http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/productmodel.do?group=72&type=61&subtype=78&model_cd=439&ppmi=1170#)

Try plugging it in and rebooting, I don't know why, but this seems to fix a lot of "unrecognised usb" errors.

Can't do any harm (at least I don't think so :o)

Maybe you need to enable sharing on it, in my computer right click on the drive icon and click sharing/ security and then check allow sharing - i have to do this each time i turn mine on.

Have you mounted the disk (set it up for use first?). If not the system will recognise the disk but you will not be able to use it.

You can use Diskwizard from the seagate site to do this - will work on non seagate hard drives.

DiscWizard | Seagate (http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-GB&name=DiscWizard&vgnextoid=d0f569a45d3ce010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD )
