G'day all, was wondering if anybody knew what this ECU is out of.
I bought an 87 Rangie whith what was supposed to be a 4.6ltr in it,
But found out that it doesn't, i believe it's a 3.5ltr thats been stroked to maybe a 4.0 or 4.2
It runs no air flow meter and has this ECU hooked up under the seat, it also has a vacum line of some sort running into the side of it.
All idea's and comments welcome

The vacuum line is probably to a MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor. My old Classic had a Haltech with one of those. That's not the Haltech mine had.

Possibly AC Delco from a GM v8 5.0, similar looking connector

Thanks, any hints on identifying the engine size is also welcomed.
I know it's been stroked out but don't know what to, can the dizzy or anything give it away??

As a process of elimination, that doesn't look like a UniChip either.

If it was a 4.6 there will be a row of bolt heads sitting horizontal just above the sump join ( the main bearing cross bolts). On a 3.5-3.9 none.

A 4.6 will have a cover or hole on the LH side of the flywheel cover for the crank position sensor.

A 3.9 stroker kit takes it to 4.6.

I guess that you may have to look at engine numbers but AFAIK a lot of short engines from UK came without numbers and the seller just stamped the VIN engine number on them. This mainly applied to 4.6.

I don't know how you tell a 3.5 from a 3.9 other than engine number although later 3.9 had no outer row of head bolt holes in the block.

A stroked engine won't have the crossbolts referred to by PhillipA. My '86 RR had a John E Davis Motorworks 3.5 bored and stroked to 4.6 litres.

Yes, i found out about the cross bolts on the 4.6. after i got it home and was sus on it
This is a 3.5 or 3.9 block thats been stroked to ???????

I was told it was stroked to a 4.6 from the guy who sold it to me, he said thats what he was told.
But then someone else told me you can't stroke a 3.5 out to a 4.6?????
I don't think it really pulls like a 4.6 either

OK, found some info that lead the engine work to Vitesse developments.
This turned out to be a conversion they would have done in the 80's.
It's most likely to be a 4.0, they simply bore out a 3.5 and change the ECU....
No air flow meter either!!!
Thanks everyone
