Just got back and uploaded the pictures from Levuka.

Thanks to everyone for a great trip. We had an excellent turnout with 16 cars, and a great group of people as always.

Thanks for the patience as this was the first trip I have lead and I now have a good idea of how much is involved! Got some ideas for improvements for the next one!

Friday Night was excellent round the fire. We didnt get there till about 8.30pm in our little convoy of Rod(BigDog) Grimace and Jess, and Sam and I, and nearly everyone else was there already.

Didnt go to bed until about 1.30am and then up at about 6am on Saturday.

So anyway here are some pics I took. There should be loads as I saw plenty of cameras during the weekend.

Camp site (taken at luchtime today so some people had gone)

Saw a lot of wildlife aswell. The place was teeming with snakes and lizards:

Well
Back home and doing the normal unpacking, cleaning bla bla.
Was another great trip with great people. Must admit the campfire banter was one of the funiest I have heard. Stevo, Pete and Grimace had everyone ****ing themselves for hours each night. I think I had more fun around the fire than I did driving:eek: ( It was very dry):(.
We had a few small glitches with various vehicles, but nothing that couldn't be sorted. Saw a heap of snakes and lizards which kept the kids amused and on their toes.
As always its a pleasure to have a weekend away with such good people. It is a credit to the club and its members.
It was also touching to see the glazed eyes of the Disco owners every time the Classic Rangies tackled the terrain with ease and style.:D

Till the next trip

AWESOME PICS AND TRIP!!
I loved this trip, it was good to get away for a change. We did some great tracks and it was a lot of fun.
The ecu oil issue was a minor misshap, but at least I got home. (i think Rod might have a pic of oil pouing out of my ecu) Thanks Pete and Justin for helping out.
Another thanks goes to Pete, John and Justin for winching/snatching me out of trouble on 3 occations.

Thanks to everyone for making it such a great trip...this club is awesome.

Hey Guys, What a top spot:twisted:
The Gumboot seemed to do the job pretty well, but needs a bit more clearance. (Stay tunned);)
Think about half of Levuka is on the front grass after the girny.
Thanks very much to Pete for a great trip & to all of the participants who were an absolute pleasure to be associated with.
And yes the campfire banter was very entertaining !!!!!!!!!!!!
Look forward in the next installment.

Does anyone have a transcript of the Saturday night banter? It was a shame to go early and miss that :(

Great trip, although I plan to do more driving next time. Camp fire banter as already said was some of the best you'll hear anywhere. Grimace, you are now officially one of the funniest guys I know..........was crying with laughter:D
Kids had a blast and saw some cracking wildlife.
Pete, great job organising......always hard to arrange groups for the day, but you managed fine. Thankfully no recovering of the Mack Truck this time although some slippery hills did require a few goes.....time for 35s soon I think:D
I took several pics so will get them off my camera at some point and post up.
Huge thanks to Matt (my partner for the weekend:angel:) for organising our camp food etc......cracking job;) And maybe next time we'll leave the red wine and vodka at home:wacko: Or just even stick to one type of drink:p
Dave, apologies again on behalf of Charlie who drunkenly fell out of his seat and knocked a full glass of Bundy all over you......he was mortified:( Em did wonder why the washing bag smelt of hard liquor:angel:
Buzz, great job on the biltong (spelling?) that was huge hit and very addictive.......feel free to cook up another batch for the next trip:D
All in all a great weekend away with a top bunch of people. Looking forward to the next one:D:D

Great trip as usual. Thanks to Pete for organising, Justin for the winch recovery and Harry for the slow snatch:(

The boys had a great time, cuts and bruises aside. I never realised cows could be so entertaining:cool:

Apart from getting stuck twice the only downside of the trip for us was the flat on the way home. Whilst driving through the road works at Park Ridge at 60kph the red warning light came on, bells ringing, etc, the D3 squatted down and panic set in. Nowhere to stop safely so I trundled along for another 500 metres 'till I could exit.

Turns out the left rear was flat thanks to a nail I'd picked up. Unload the car to get to the spare, get the jack out and find the D3 would not got to normal height let alone off road height (required for jacking) which meant I had to use the scissor jack in lieu of the bottle jack as it wouldn't fit under the chassis rail.

I suspect the car faulted the air suspension due to the flat on a fully-laden car which it couldn't "level"? In retrospect I think I should have removed the key for a minute of so and tried starting her up again to access off road height for the change.

Anyway, changed the tyre and off we went, no problems at all.

Here's some vid to share.

Wow! Bit busy at work today so just want to say a quick thanks to everyone.

Congrats Pete & Sam for organising a good weekend away (even if it was muddy).

The pics and videos are great.

The camp was fantastic.

The mud was shocking, I am not a mud person and I tell you what it is so slipery and unpredictable its not funny. But i did have a laugh or three hundred! :)

All in all I had a great weekend, and I really appreciate the company that is always top notch!

Silly me thou, the one time I don't do a full camp check before leaving is the one time I leave something behind. I left my camp cook plate and bag by the fire .... Gonna kick my own arse!

Righty ho...now catching up. As has been said...excellent trip, camp fire was top form again....you wouldn't want to be to PC to be in this club ;). I have managed to lick my wounds after the hammering I got from a "m" ( he lost the "ate") and am ready for round 15. Was great having so many kids....mine had a blast...especially the boys.

Smokey came out basically unscathed and again impressed with how she performed...though a rear and front bar are definitely required as only a matter of time before one or the other gets left behind :o.

Kudo's to "m" for his first time out as TL......begrudgingly well done :p. As to the rest of the members on the trip....look forward to seeing you out on the tracks again soon. I think it is a testament to the club that we have young lads in late teens/ early 20's right through to old dinosaurs like...ummmm.....errrrr.....well hazard a guess at own risk :wasntme: and everyone in between and maintain a great atmosphere. Anyhoo...here are my collection of pics....got some video....just havent worked out how to get it from puter to the likes of Youtube etc or to edit it...but working on it.

Looks as if you all had a ripper weekend, wish I could have been there. Also great pics, I see that it's dried out a bit since I was there about 5 weeks ago (havoc crossing was muddier as well as the dip at the start of Rustys run and Rosemarys Road). The logistics of the trip by the sounds of it went well with that amount of vehicles too which is a good thing.

The dunga is getting off-road withdrawls but will be fighting fit soon, just not enough hours in the day or time over the weekend (have 2 wrecks to part out that takes a hell of a lot of time).

I was at work on saturday wishing I was there throwing the dunga through all sorts of torture :twisted:

Great bit of driving in the Vid to power the D1 through the ruts, must have been that maxidrive in the back that came out of a?????? Range Rover. As far as the Root goes, at least I got one over the weekend!!!!!!!!!!!

Your Disco is a ROVER "Princess":o

In all fairness everyone did a great job with the vehicles they were driving. Considering we had everything from unlocked, road tyres, locked with big tyres, locked with little tyres. We even had vehicles with no centre diff:confused::confused::confused:. Remember guys push the lever forward and to the left:cool:.

Thanks Justin
I must admit that the Maxi Rear was very handy this weekend, with the other half of the Job on the front CV still to be completed, I have not used the front locka much lately, but with the Maxi in the rear guaranteeing that the rear would not break traction violently, I was able to sneak the front in.
So I basically went from Unlocked to double locked in one easy lesson.
Any weekend with a new Locka is going to be a good weekend. :D

As for driving skill, I was telling Harry today that I was looking for a Video that I thought Cheryl had taken of you climbing the steep, slippery, rutted hill at the start of Dingo’s. I wanted to post it as an example of a text book drive for others to learn from. As I told Harry we look at your car and give it credit for what it’s just done, but ignoring how it is piloted would be a big mistake. Great drive mate. ;)

If anybody has video of Justin climbing Dingo’s on Saturday Arvo, preferably shot showing the front of his car, PLEASE POST IT UP.

Whilst we are bickering about which breed of 100” Rover is best there was a “Short” blue thing winding its way around, never backing up and just quietly going everywhere. Well driven Sam, :D

This is the top of Dingo's. I am looking for the video of this climb

Thanks for the kind words Gaz. I suppose driving does have an input into the outcome, but after 10 odd years off setting up the Rangy you tend to work out what stuff works and what does not.

Yes the little blue 90 quietly flashed around the park out front missing all the action down the back;). Well piloted Pete & Sam. As the infamous Stevo once said----"Pete you suck, Sam your tops"

Thanks to Pete & Sam for organizing the trip.

Mud is my least favorite type of 4 Wheeling. Tends to be too easy or just plain dangerous.
Still had a lots of fun. :D

Our family had a great time. Excellent Camping spot. The old wood fire hot water showers and toilets, were tops.

The Campfire entertainment had me in stitches at times, thanks to Pete, Stevo, & Grimace. (Lover of the Cock. ) :p

The most entertaining driving moment goes to whoever it was in the Rodeo or whatever it was valve bouncing, tyre smoking his way up Oakey Creek Waterfall.....10 points for tenacity.

Most disappointing moment goes to being beaten by a D1.
My excuse (Mud doesn't count)...:wasntme:

Here's the video footage from my camera.

Thanks to all for a great weekend.

YouTube - Levuka

Got permission from the Park owner to use the Chainsaw. Kicking Myself for not asking him sooner.
Here is a pic of the camp fire fuelled late yesterday afternoon.

Gary and Justin,

Cheers for the kind words Re Sams driving. Have passed them on:)

Shes getting pretty good now.. Just needs to get a bit more confidence on some of the more 'scary' looking stuff.

Haha love the video, go the disco's! Were those photos taken on an slr gary? or does your photographer just have a fantastic eye for angles?

buzz, good on yer, trying to up the rangie versus disco thing with that vid!!!
no, i don't have a front locker.
still a bit embarrassed by busman going up that bit so easily.
the fear factor of nearly rolling is a strong deterrant for me getting on side angles, so i still try to drive most things straight up - and it doesn't work. most times.
thanks for the vid.

and re the disco rangie thing,
wern't all those old rangies v8's?
justin's is a ?
power windows and mirrors from a disco?
diffs and axles from md?
seems most rangies are modified with disco gear, or in one case, a thumping big diesel as well.
no, i am not getting into this debate. my disco is all disco but for diff lock and two axles, springs and two shocks, [thanks justin] maybe that is the problem with it?

Settle down Harry, I just put an original RRC fuel filler back on it:D ( I think the door skins are still original)

Justin

ps you could get a factory VM diesel Rangy, but they were horrid. Go the Isuzu!!!!!!!

Almost forgot Disco,s use all RRC running gear, so they cant be too bad hey.

thanks justin,

so why the silly comparison thing,
which is better?

in stock form they are the same [when new - if you bought a poverty pack rr - the disco is a poverty pack rr with more engine options for the financially challenged, and those that bought the v8 option lost more in the resale value, so that is why there are so many v8's on the tracks.]

Look its simple. Without Nissans or Toyotas in the club what else can we have some banter about. I tell you what though, driving a defender must be like sitting in a tuppaware container on wheels:eek:

Dear Justin and Harry, good morning,

Range Rover Classic versus Discovery 1 is the arguement that I am seeing, correct me if I'm wrong.

Newer models after that it's less and less about quality... look at today's new Range Rover's and Discovery, very difficult to spot quality difference!

Yes the Discovery 1 was released as a budget Range Rover Classic, and having compared both when wrecked for parts in my opinion the Discovery 1 is cheaper in price and some parts are cheaper in build as well.

Thankfully THE 109 and LR are custom built, non factory spec. Land Rover's that were designed and constructed for a purpose, so I am happy I do not fit into your arguement.

In conclusion, RRC > Disco1 (both stock), ha ha ha I've had my laugh.

Regards,

Mater.

I love tupperware - it's strong, watertight, dustproof, flexible, comes in cute colors, and has a classic shape ...... and it can take a hammering and still come out tops - all this while keeping the poo fresh

Apart from getting stuck twice the only downside of the trip for us was the flat on the way home.

Well another tyre down the gurgler:mad: another $400 gone. What is it with me and tyres? Is there a tyre god I've pee'd off? Have I run over someone's tyre cat? Is it my dear departed MIL getting back at me for comparing her to the Michelin Man?

AAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHHH

Hey Harry the Video wasn't meant to Diss the Discos'. It's all the video footage I had that's all.

I think Discos are great they have much better interior to a Rangy.
I don't like the barn door thats about it.

No wonder my Duct kept coming of the Airflow sensor. Take a look at both front engine mounts. They are as broken as it gets. Good thing the new Transfer case has new mounts.

Hi guys

Quick note if anyone has any footage for next meetings DVD. I have some from Pete so far and thats it.

If can get it to my shop in Oxenford that would be great.. Otherwise If you can throw it on DVD and bring to the meeting then we can show it.
