Gday All,I met an elderly couple today driving a tdi Defender wagon and whilst talking I noticed the rear springs were stuffed full of tennis balls, when I asked about it they replyed that they are the best airbags you can get..But you cant use the cheapo balls I was told , they have to be good quality tennis balls.
Has anybody ever done or tried this, I guess its feasable that it would work..
Cheers Ean

Must make quite a racquet when you do it too

If one fails, you're courting disaster!

Ans I'm told that the money asked to install them is a bit of a racquet.

I've never seen any pix of them on the 'net.

This reminds me of when I spoke to an american bloke who had it done and had broken down when I was stationed at Oodnadatta....John someone....

I said to him, "man you need airbags or if you cant get them use tennis balls in the springs...."

he said, "Tennis balls?, Tennis balls??, You must be joking the balls was in..."

"Hey (I was worried about him now!) calm down, maybe a ball has ruptured, you know split..."

he screamed "You cant be serious...the balls was good!"

maybe theyre popping out maybe its a fault with how do you check them?

he went off "I check them with my foot, are you saying I have a foot fault?, you miserable little *****!?"

Id had enough and I walked away.... but later I heard he had to have his car towed as he had a nervous breakdown.... when they began to tow it up onto the truck the hook broke and it ran off and into a bit of scrub..he started again...."that car....its good, it was on the line...."

we gave him a nice white jacket with 6' wrap around strap on sleeves and sent him away....

his last name was something like...McMonroe??? or something:angel:

anyway reminds me of that time.....

It's an easy fix to get you out of trouble a long way from home. The hardest part is to find some kind of retainer for the top of the rear springs (so you don't loose your balls)

And one doesn't want loose balls!
