Well what a sight, its not as bad here in Bathurst as it is in sydney going by the pics on sunrise, but its quite an eery (spelling Ron? :D) feeling. Looks quite thick on the telly in sydney. Left the bathroom window open last night and there was a nice pile of red dust on the bottom of the bath which is right next to the window. After the massive storm its hard to imagine there would be much dust, where is it all comming from?

Woke up this morning to a sight I have not seen since when I was working in Central Australia in the mid sixties. Visibility is about 100m and everything is lit by a deep red sky. I'll get some pictures when the light is bright enough. If gets bright enough..... My blue County is now brown, and I have not looked at the 2a yet - It has already been washed for the trip to the Expo!

I got up at 5 this morning as the bloody dog was pacing at the end of my bed and panting all night.
So got up to open the back door, thinking she needed the toilet...and I looked out and thought it was a thick blanket of fog I stared at it for a bit then went back to bed

1. dont touch any surfaces inside unless you want to dust them!!!
(its like an outback code as no matter how well sealed, dust gets in!)
2. send back out top soil!!! (via postal is OK...)
3. if we had water we would have kept the soil wet....sorry - (it is the drought after all)

Yesterday here was very windy , hot with lots of dust. Not pleasant at all.
This morning was quiet cool and apart form all the dust in the house, it was interesting to see the puffs of dust rising from my footsteps as I was walking on the grass.
There is a fantastic photo in the Birdsville pub of a dust storm about 2 years ago. The photo was on the front page of "the australian"newspaper.

Actually, in all seriousness it was raining mud in Orange this morning while on the way to work.
I kid you not, I have never seen anything like it before, and you would have to see it to believe it, but it was actually raining red mud. The entire way to work the windscreen wipers were pushing mud off the windscreen.

By chance I was in Melb that day and so was my grandfather (spent most of his early life in SW NSW, Lockart, etc) and his 83 yo girlfriend.
The big black wall was approaching and I said WTF is that? Their response was 'dust storm', shut the windows, be over in half an hour.
And it was.
It's not like these events have never happened before. In the past no-one had the cameras and instant image transmission like we do now.
