Took the SVX south over the long week end with sons D1, both trying very hard to get stuck, all the gear if we did. We failed. Open diffed ( centre) on both vehicles, only once did the D1 engage the air locker to follow the Puma. Awsum for such a basic vehicle considering the slop we were in, but also a huge learning curve in the Puma, go traction control. Best Defender yet, I was dissapointed when I bought this vehicle but the longer I have it the better it is. Has anyone else found this with the Puma.

They are fantastic. Get a few of the bugs ironed out & I reckon they are 30 year keepers.

How come you were disappointed when you bought the vehicle (sorry if you have explained in another thread)?

The clutch rattle required a modified clutch - two week wait and the engine rattle at cold start is thankfully now fixed.
Any other problems I did have were caused by my 2 inch lift kit which caused noise. I have now returned the SVX to standard height and solved all my man made problems!

Hey Allan, They're cool heh  I am interested in your comment about the 2" lift problems? I have heard this before and but never realy had it explained what the real issue has been caused by? We have done a King Spring 2" lift which actually only lifted it by about a 1" but have had no problems at all?

Did you do some before and after measurements when you did your lift? I am wondering if that extra inch makes all the difference between working and not??

Cheers,

I'm sure I have said this before.....the issues I believe where the angles with the props.....hence why xavier had to have a double cardon jointed prop made up at the cost of about a 1000bux from memory.

I dont know but didn't you say that yours was actually only raised an inch up above?

or perhaps xavier's problems were not in fact prop angles (although I have heard this to be a problem more than once) maybe it was a case of bad gearboxs bad diffs and bad transfer cases......which could be feasible considering the things that landrover have quarantined since its release

Mine was sold to me as a 2" lift but with all the extra's onboard it only went up one ?

I wonder what brand springs Xavier's were?

Tonnes of people lift defenders with no drama's I can't see what on the new cars has changed that would mean you can't lift them anymore?? I am thinking something else was wrong and LR has pointed the finger at the springs. I'd be digging further if my car started to make noise.

things must of changed underneath John otherwise the prop would have not fowled the sump the hand brake wouldn't hang lower and we all wouldn't have fitted guards protecting our transmission. so although its the same things must have changed....

I wonder whether it was to fit the likes of the new gearbox...as I think the transfer case is still the same

Mine is 2008 model, 2 inch lift OME and had all sorts of problems with prop shaft angles. Now has nose droop due to extras fitted same time as lift. Try to figure that one. I think that at the next service, (next month) I will have 130 springs fitted to the front. Will be interesting to see if propshaft problems arise again.
