View Full Version : D2 TD5 Auto box clunking into 3rd under light throttle

When I am driving very gently, the gear change from 2nd to 3rd can be quite harsh. This is even more noticeable in low range. It has been suggested by a friend who has some experience in this area that one of the valves in the valve body may be sticking. Under medium to heavy throttle the gear changes are fine.

Question: How hard is it to get the valve body out and can it be serviced?

I have recently changed the fluid also and this did not rectify the clunk.

Thanks

Also get the fault codes cleared and test it.

Do you think it could be a controller issue Simon? I have a basic OBDII reader but I don't think it will read the auto controller. Have you had some experience with auto playing up?

I was thinking that my troubles were more hydraulic

Ive probably had every auto issue known to man.

Mine was clunking and banging around a fair bit. The mob that did it the last time fixed up a few things and cleared the codes and it came back a lot better - but not perfect. It was then swapped out for a built box and no more probs, but hopefully its just some codes affecting it. My probs also very very hydraulic.
